“Tottenham will try to do a deal” – Charlie Eccleshare says Spurs are ‘prepared’ to raid Premier League club for 23-year-old in January

Tottenham Hotspur are poised to continue their transfer pursuit as the January window approaches, with Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher emerging as a prime target. Reports suggest that the North London club, eager to bolster their squad, is considering reigniting their interest in the 23-year-old English international.

Earlier attempts to secure Gallagher’s services in September faltered, but Spurs, under manager Ange Postecoglou, are eager to revive the pursuit.

Gallagher, a product of Chelsea’s academy, has been an influential figure for the Blues this season, showcasing his versatility by contributing four goals and appearing in every game he has been available.

Pochettino, acknowledging Gallagher’s significance and commitment to Chelsea’s values, praised the midfielder’s unwavering dedication on the pitch.

However, amidst financial considerations related to Financial Fair Play regulations, Chelsea may contemplate selling Gallagher, and Spurs could pounce on him.

According to Spurs correspondent Charlie Eccleshare via The Athletic, if the English international becomes available in January, Tottenham will be inclined to make another attempt to complete the deal this time.

The report from The Athletic states:

“In midfield, and returning to the importance of versatility, Spurs will probably look to bring in a No 8 but, ideally, they want someone who could also play as a defensive midfielder or in an advanced role given they have so many absentees in midfield with injuries and with Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr soon to be away for the Africa Cup of Nations.”

“Spurs explored a deal to sign Gallagher on deadline day in September, and he has a lot of admirers at the club. If he is available for transfer in January and sources close to Chelsea, speaking anonymously to The Athletic to protect relationships, say the club are prepared to listen to bids Tottenham will try to do a deal.”

Tottenham desperately need to bolster their midfield. Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr are going to be unavailable for several weeks due to their participation in the AFCON.

With Bentancur also out injured, someone like Gallagher would be a great signing to fill the void created by the missing players.
