Spurs player who almost left the club in January singled out for his ‘magnificent’ performance vs Chelsea

Tottenham Hotspur secured an impressive 2-0 win over their London rivals, Chelsea, on Sunday, with young midfielder Oliver Skipp putting in a standout performance.

Skipp, who is just 21 years old, scored a stunning debut goal to give Spurs the lead and was instrumental in the team’s victory.

Former Spurs player Michael Dawson was quick to praise Skipp’s performance after the game, singling him out as a key player in the victory. Dawson described Skipp’s goal as “absolutely magnificent” and highlighted the youngster’s patience and determination in waiting for his chance to shine.

He told Sky Sports (quotes via TBR):

“Oliver Skipp, getting his first goal was absolutely magnificent.”

“He doesn’t get many, one in 45 at Norwich when he was on loan. And he’s had to be patient, with Bentancur and Bissouma getting injured. But has he taken it. It was a great strike.”

Skipp’s impressive display comes at a crucial time for Spurs, who have been hit by an injury crisis in midfield. With both Rodrigo Bentancur and Yves Bissouma sidelined, Skipp has been given a chance to prove himself, and he has certainly taken it. His performances have been exceptional, and he has quickly established himself as a key player for the team.

It’s interesting to note that Skipp could have been playing for a different team this season. Leeds United made a deadline day loan move for Skipp in January, but Spurs manager Antonio Conte blocked the move.

Conte’s decision to keep Skipp at Spurs has paid off, and the team is now reaping the rewards of his talent and hard work during the injury crisis.
