Tottenham wonderkid Luka Vuskovic has been named among the world’s top 60 young players by The Guardian.
Every year, the newspaper releases its ‘Next Generation’ list of top young players to watch, calling on writers from around the globe to make the picks.
This year’s age cut-off is players born in 2007 and Spurs fans will be thrilled to see Vuskovic named alongside the likes of Chido Obi-Martin of Manchester United and the brilliantly-named Rayane Messi of Strasbourg.
Vuskovic agreed a deal with Spurs last summer for a reported £12m (per The Standard) from Hajduk Split in his native Croatia. The Lilywhites saw off competition from the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea, PSG and Man City to sign the then-16-year-old.
Still only 17, Vuskovic has since spent time out on loan in Poland with Radomiak Radom and, this season, Belgium with Westerlo before officially becoming a Spurs player next summer.
Across the two spells combined, he’s scored seven goals in 24 appearances, while at Westerlo, he leads the way for clearances (63) and is second for both aerial duels won (30) and passes completed (346).
Vuskovic is highly thought of in both Spurs and Croatian circles and might well make the jump at both levels next season.
Should he continue to perform at his current standard, he may well go on to be a favourite of Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou.
Spurs youngster Luca Vuskovic earns high praise
Croatian journalist and Guardian columnist Alex Holiga was the one to pick Vuskovic and gave a glowing review of the teenage centre-back.
“His older brother Mario was one of the Guardian’s Next Generation 2019 picks but even then coaches – and Mario himself – were saying that Luka was the truly generational talent,” Holiga wrote.
“Hajduk Split gave him his senior debut as soon as he turned 16 and was allowed to play for the first team. Two days after his birthday he started the derby against Dinamo – and a week later he scored his first goal.
“A complete defender and a dominant player even at senior level, Vuskovic has incredible potential and is now confidently showing it in Belgium on loan from Hajduk. He will be at Spurs from the summer though after they snapped him in a record-breaking sale for the Croatian club.”
