The recruitment drive to rebuild Tottenham’s rather neglected back-line looks to be underway and a source close to the club understands that personal terms are currently being negotiated with Norwich City’s right back, Max Aarons. The 21-year-old had been on the radar of a number of sides, and I am given to understand that Everton were that other Premier League interested, as they pursue upon a mission to replace their ageing Seamus Coleman.
Presumably, this deal either signals the imminent departure of Serge Aurier, or a long-awaited bolstering of the Tottenham squad. I had heard previously that Mourinho was concerned about Aaron’s height but at 5’10, he’s not so tiny.
My understanding is that Spurs had held talks at Carrow Road about a January move, but understandably the Canaries didn’t see it as being in their own best interests to weaken a hugely successful Championship season. I’d see Max as a work in progress, as with Joe Rodon.
Maybe his stats have suffered with the interest from the likes of Bayern. From the little I have seen of him he’s better going forward and I thought his positional sense was a bit off but he’s promising, if it’s in him Mourinho will find it.
He’s English which for quota reasons is a bonus but pushes up his price. I’d go for it unless they are going for the finished article.
Stuff the stats,is he any good?.If he has pace and can tightly mark someone then that matters.
We should have gone for Godfrey, who can play all across the back line.
Aarons didn’t do too well in the PL last season, possibly a bit early.
Now down in the Championship his stats have slipped.Very strange.
Better with Lamptey from Brighton.

Forget Max, we should be going for Lamperty from BHA and Vestergard from Soton.

Just read on a Bayern Munich page that they have “walked away from the pursuit of Aarons”: After a brief flirtation, it appears that the price for Max Aarons is too high for Bayern Munich. Aarons, whose rumored transfer fee is between €30 to €35 million, is likely too expensive for the Bavarians
34 matches this season, 1 goal, 0 assists. A 6.87 rating at Whoscored.com. An average of 1.4 key passes and 0.8 successful crosses per game. Two seasons ago he had 41 apps, 2 goals, 6 assists and a similar rating. Dont know what to make of these numbers.
But he’s only 21 and already got over 100 apps at right back. Ready to explode on the big scene with Spurs?

Perhaps Spurs are trying to buck the trend of buying players that are rubbish?!
Given that Norwich are odds on to win promotion, it’s hard to see why they would want to sell one of their best assets whose contract runs until June 2024. With Skippy certain to return to Spurs, Norwich wouldn’t exactly be cementing their place in the Premier League.
