Spurs Failed To Kill It And There’s Your Answer|video analysis

By The Boy -

Spurs had a few (not plenty of) opportunities to put Liverpool to the sword and ultimately we failed to take them – that’s show business. As Mourinho says, this was a big game and to many of us it feels like an absolute disaster. What will happen is that we’ll look at the chances we failed to convert, and establish the individual fails. Alternatively we can demand Mourinho is fired and see if Pochettino is still unemployable free.

We played almost the entire second half without a creative mid. We should have come out of the 442 which worked in first back to 433 or 4123 so we could go higher and put pressure on Gina. And why not Alli for Gio baffles me. In terms of the season, we have nothing to lose. Time to start expressing ourselves in the attacking portion of the field. I think the defensive philosophy is in grain time to release the offense.

xG stats showed us marginally ahead.

Agree with that summary in general. 5/10 was fair for the Palace game, but I think we were more a 7/10 last night especially in the 2nd half. If we’d tried to go toe to toe with them it could’ve been a bad night for us, but we had a very good 2nd half and with a bit more clinical finishing could’ve won it. I know could’ve’s don’t win games, but it shows how far we’ve come as a team and Liverpool had to work very hard to beat us.

Way too earlier to start saying that. We’re only 3 points behind atm. Let’s hold our nerve. It took Liverpool playing their best game this season to narrowly beat us. We will grow and evolve and we’re not the complete unit yet. Liverpool have been that way for a couple of years, but it took them a while to get there, as it will us.

Very disappointing, but we had three gilt edged chances to win it in the second half. The two Bergwijn one-on-ones and Harry’s header. Given the defensive style that we play, such chances are at a premium, hence the kind of ruthless striking efficiency that we showed against City and Arsenal is essential. Unfortunately yesterday we had the chance to kill it but failed the test. Let’s hope to see a rousing display against Leicester on Sunday to get us back on the winning track.

Yep, we should have, but its not a disaster. Just feels like if we swapped Bergy for Son with those 2 chances we’d be 3 points clear.

But I’d say a Leicester win is even more important than last night.

Liverpool will drop points against teams last season they would’ve beaten,
….would not be surprised if by Jan we are top again

That is probably Liverpool’s best performance in a while, and that is what it took to beat us. I think the tactics were right for this game whatever the stats say and it so nearly paid off, if we were more open it could have been a battering. Yet those chances second half WE HAD , were proved to be crucial in the end, but we are second, so no disaster far from it.

It’s no coincidence that Liverpool’s winning goal came from yet another potent Robertson corner.
Excellent full back he is.
I am still puzzled how Kane missed his headed goal???

Having failed the test surely it’s the pivotal moment that Liverpool probably won the title. Anything short of keeping pace with Liverpool (who travel to Palace on Saturday lunchtime) takes on a must win against the erratic Foxes on Sunday. Recalling one of our victories ending 5-4 there will be goals for sure in what is always an open match!!

It wasn’t a bad performance in the end, based mainly on the 2nd half and the three big chances created.

Jose needs to find a way to allow us to get on the ball more, I feel we have ball players who need to be more involved in what’s going on in this team. It’s always Tangy OR Gio and never both. Appreciate what the PEH Sissoko block brings but there are games and circumstances within games where things need to be changed up.

I’ve been crediting Jose with a job well done results wise this season but the last two games I reckon he’s been a 5/10. Too conservative when it hasn’t been required…

Not saying we deserved to win the game but we should’ve. Anyway, move on we WILL.
