Spurs’ chiefs spotted abroad as they eye star player with a ‘whopping €400 million release clause’

By Mehdi Gokal -

Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Barcelona forward Memphis Depay, and a Spurs executive was recently spotted in Barcelona.

The Dutch international has been linked with a move to Spurs all summer and now journalist Gabriel Sans has shared the latest update regarding it.

The reporter for Mundo Deportivo claims that Depay has been a target for Spurs “for weeks.” He also reports that the Spurs owner and club chief Joe Lewis have been in Barcelona meeting with officials of the Spanish club. The report suggests that alongside discussions for Depay, the meeting could also be regarding the potential sale of Sergio Reguilon to the Spanish outfit.

The former Manchester United man made a move to Barcelona from Lyon last summer and has a ‘whopping €400 million release clause’ in his contract but with just one year left and with the addition of Lewandowski, the club are looking at cashing on him now if a good offer comes. This is why he is available to sign for much much less.

The club had made contact with Depay earlier this month but the former Manchester United man had ruled out a move to Spurs at that time however had kept it open for reconsideration.

The former Manchester United player can play as both a center-forward and a left-sided winger; his versatility and technical ability could be extremely beneficial to Antonio Conte’s squad.

This (absolute nonsense) is a huge no from me. We have three players who can play as a 9 now,if we lack anything it is another player with a bit og guile.

if we can get someone in who can play both inside right like Kulusevski, and as an 8/10, that would be ideal. Zaniolo makes more sense to me, cruciate injuries aside

One might say both Depay and de pay haven’t been great at Barca.

Since when has Lewis had any involvement at all in club business, let alone transfer business?

The de Jong situation is a particular disgrace. Apparently they owe him millions in wages but that didn’t stop them from signing Lewandowski, Kounde and Raphinha…none of whom they can register now because of their obscene wage budget.

They will get away with it nonetheless. Classless club.

Can we start employing these Barca-style tactics to get D’doms salary down to something like a tenner a week…how their club is getting away with it all this summer is astonishing.
