Tottenham Hotspur have recently been linked with a number of midfielders.
And while Chelsea captain, Conor Gallagher, remains a top priority for Spurs, they have looked at other players as well.
Among them is Blackburn Rovers midfielder Adam Wharton who is said to have attracted the interest of the North London club this month.
The England U20 international extended his contract last December, ensuring his stay at the club until June 2028.
The central midfielder has consistently featured as a first-team starter for the club, starting 22 of the 26 games he has played, contributing to two goals and three assists.
The 19-year-old is a versatile player who is primarily a defensive midfielder but has proven that he can play as a central midfielder as well as an attacking midfield.
Despite the attractive profile, journalist Ben Jacobs has now suggested that the transfer is unlikely to materialise in the near future.
Addressing the Wharton rumours on Last Word on Spurs, journalist Ben Jacobs confirmed that Tottenham have looked at the player but stated that as per his sources, the potential move is no longer being considered.
He said:
“Speaking to sources, I don’t think Adam Wharton will happen, Crystal Palace are more active as it stands and he’s a lot more expensive than a player like Buck.
“The fee could be as high as £15m, at least £10m with add-ons, there’s no doubt Spurs have looked but they will have to catch up with where Crystal Palace are currently.”
TBH Says:
While the youngster is undeniably a promising talent and signing him would have provided additional squad depth for Ange Postecoglou, it is not a surprise that the move may not happen.
Crystal Palace are also interested in signing him and they will be able to offer him more regular playing time compared to us.
