The Athletic (£) understands that Manchester United could be pondering the idea of prizing Harry Kane out of North London. Now, this is hardly breaking news, after the eventual exit of the doe-eyed Dane Christian Eriksen, it was almost inevitable that Harry’s name was next on the tabloids’ transfer rumour short-list.
Any raid on Spurs for Kane would obviously be beset with difficulties. Beyond the notoriously inscrutable security of Daniel Levy there lies not just a lengthy contract extension until 2024, thought to worth some £90million, but what would surely be a colossal transfer fee and wage package.
The Express is running today with a piece that names Kane as one of 4 names on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s “list”.
There’s also the impact that any or all of the above would have on the finances at Old Trafford. United, somewhat like Spurs would benefit from freshening up across the entire squad and sinking vast amounts into one player could be seen as cavalier, even if that chosen one were a superstar like the boy Kane.
