After a fanfare of praise for a number of players online last week, unless I’ve missed something, the world is still waiting. The PFA announced the initiative to partner with NHS Charities Together.
Since then, the only update has been that the England women’s football team are pitching in too, but again, no actual donation.
Let me clarify, any help is welcome. Outside the footballing elite bubble, ordinary folks are doing their best to contribute where they can. Local to me, I’m aware of people making drawstring bags for uniforms to be washed in. Some teachers have begun a cottage-industry, making face visors. A friend of mine with a van has been fetching shopping and prescriptions for a few elderly folks who are one their own.
It’s evident that English players are resistant to their pay packets being interfered with at source, despite Lionel Messi’s stunning example of taking a 70% cut. Which doesn’t auger well when pondering how long it will take for donations to start hitting the front line from our lot.
How long does it take a group of people (some so rich that many of them could retire in luxury tomorrow) to write a cheque?

Arsenal players refuse 15 per cent wage cut and prefer a wage deferral. Right you Spurs time to put the boot in.
Indeed too much time has lapsed since the players were shamed into showing some sort of initative.
How difficult can it be for them to write a cheque then collect from each squad member and deliver them to the main hospital local to the club.
There problem solved, and it can be done anonymously or with publicity. Not too difficult.
I’m shite at maths and calculations so this may not be as accurate as it could be. You experts will correct it if wrong.
So, assuming most if not all PL players earn £50,000 a week average. Squad size 25 if every player gave up just one weeks wages that’s £1.25 million per club times that by the 20 teams that make up the PL that’s £25 million minimum that should be going to the NHS ……
Watch this space.
Don’t worry, when they do donate we will hear all about it.
How easy would it be for Harry Kane, England captain, to come out and donate £300k (one and half week’s wages) to the NHS? Or is Henderson et al waiting for everyone to pool together? When it happens there will be a great fanfare from the sycophants in the media. Whatever is happening, I agree, it is taking far too long.
Saw a film on Amazon Prime (30 day trial) last night called the Con Man all about the true story of a genius con man called Barry Minkow who in the film actually plays himself when He reaches middle age!
The film basically proves a Leopard doesn’t change its spots and I urge fellow cheapskates to watch it.

It needs one of the players to go public and announce a significant personal pay cut, but making sure that it does not go to his club. Would you trust Levy? They would have to ensure that the money goes to an organisation or deserving cause that really needs it, and this might shame a greater number of players to do the same.
Talk is cheap . What Ronan said in regard to Levy is spot on. Show me what you are , and I will believe you the first time. For me the same applies to the Players .
It needs one of these pampered pussies with their headphones, hair gel and tattoos to announce that they will take a significant pay cut personally to shame the other posers to do the same. They would have to make sure that the money wasn’t going back to the clubs, after all, would you trust Levy?
Dentists could pull teeth without drugs and make less of a fuss.
Cos they are pampered out of touch tossers that are every bit as much to blame for why the beautiful game ain’t what it was as sky and bt are.
