Tottenham Hotspur may still have a chance to sign Chelsea captain Conor Gallagher after a surprising twist in the midfielder’s proposed transfer to Atletico Madrid.

Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth recently provided an update that will excite Spurs fans, as the North London club has been strongly linked with Gallagher since last summer.

Tottenham’s interest in Gallagher dates back to last summer, when a deadline day move for the player fell through.

Despite high expectations that Spurs would revive their interest in January, the club opted to wait until the summer transfer window.

However, no formal move was made, and it seemed that Tottenham had missed their chance when Chelsea agreed on a deal with Atletico Madrid last week.

But recent developments have cast doubt on the transfer. It was reported that the deal’s success depends on Chelsea signing a player from Atletico in return, with Portuguese forward Joao Felix being the focal point of these negotiations.

However, recent developments have cast doubt on the transfer, with Gallagher returning to London, leaving the agreement with the Spanish club in limbo.

Amid this uncertainty, Dharmesh Sheth shared an update on Gallagher’s situation that could reignite Tottenham’s pursuit of the midfielder.

When asked if Tottenham are going to be keeping an eye on Gallagher’s situation, Sheth told GiveMeSport:

“I’m sure they will be keeping an eye on this situation, and that would be the second-worst case scenario for Chelsea.

“The way that they orchestrated this deal was that they offered him a two-year contract, which effectively is telling him that we want to sell you. And then, not only that, but they effectively chose the club that he was going to, which was Atletico Madrid – a club outside of the Premier League.

“They didn’t want him to go to a Premier League rival. Now that he is not going there, are Chelsea going to have to entertain potential deals from clubs in the Premier League?”

Gallagher has scored 10 goals and assisted another 10 in 95 appearances for the first team. He particularly impressed last season under Mauricio Pochettino, scoring 7 and assisting 9 in 50 appearances across all competitions. (Transfermarkt)

With the Atletico Madrid move in jeopardy, Chelsea may have to reconsider their options, potentially opening the door for a Premier League club to sign Gallagher.

Tottenham, who have been monitoring the situation closely, could make a move if Chelsea are forced to entertain offers from domestic rivals.
