Sky Sports reporter shares fresh update about Timo Werner’s future at Tottenham

By Mehdi Gokal -

Tottenham Hotspur’s loan signing, Timo Werner, is set to miss the remainder of the season due to a hamstring injury suffered during last weekend’s North London derby against Arsenal.

The blow could potentially mark the end of his stint with the Lilywhites, as his loan deal from RB Leipzig only includes an option for a permanent transfer.

Werner, the Germany international, arrived at Tottenham during the January transfer window on a loan agreement with RB Leipzig, with an option for a permanent move worth €16 million.

However, according to Sky Sports Germany reporter Philipp Hinze, the decision regarding his future remains unresolved, as Spurs have yet to reach a final verdict on activating the buy option clause before next month’s European Championships.

The 28-year-old, who has previously stated his wish to remain with the Lilywhites beyond this season, is said to be happy at the club.

Ange Postecoglou, Tottenham’s manager, has also been pleased with Werner’s contributions, despite the player registering fewer goal contributions.

Werner’s performances on the left side of the attack have shown promise, earning praise from Postecoglou.

The reporter also claims that while RB Leipzig are also happy with Timo Werner’s loan spell at Spurs since the player has played consistently and done enough to maintain his market value.

So even if Tottenham decides against a permanent transfer, Leipzig stands to retain Werner’s market value while saving on wages.

The 28-year-old forward, who has scored two goals and provided three assists in 13 Premier League appearances this season, still has two years remaining on his contract with RB Leipzig, running until the summer of 2026.

Meanwhile, Tottenham is expected to undergo significant activity in the upcoming transfer window, with a massive summer clearout anticipated.

Alongside potential departures, Spurs are eyeing reinforcements across various positions, including midfield, striker, wide attacker, centre-back, and left-back, to strengthen their squad for the future.
