Sky Sports reporter provides an update on £80k pwk player who ‘Conte is a fan of.’

By Mehdi Gokal -

According to Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge, Tottenham midfielder Oliver Skipp does not have a recurring injury and is admired by Antonio Conte.

Skipp quickly established himself as a regular under Nuno Espirito Santo and Conte after returning from a successful loan spell at Norwich in the 2020-2021 season.

He made 28 appearances in his first-team debut season but unfortunately had his season cut short due to injury. And the 22-year-old, who recently signed a new £80,000-per-week contract with his boyhood club, was ready for pre-season but the midfielder’s bad luck continued ahead of the new season when he suffered a hairline fracture in his heel just two weeks before the start of the season.

Skipp has now missed Spurs’ last 22 games in all competitions, but Bridge believes his latest injury is not a cause for concern for Conte. He told GIVEMESPORT:

“It was a heavy gash, and the injury last time was a very difficult injury to sort out and this was a very different body part, we all bleed the same.

“It’s not a recurring groin injury, that’s the point I’m trying to make, he’s been unlucky. But Antonio Conte is clearly a fan of this player and he’s homegrown and Spurs need homegrown players.

“There’s a clear hope that this is unlucky, and he ends up featuring for the rest of the season when he is back.”

Yes the same Hojbjerg. Completely different skills required for what you said, so don’t see the relevance. Hojbjerg did nothing at all for a whole half on Sunday, no out ball whatsoever, no guile to take it in a tight spot.

The same PEH who scored the tying goal and made the great pass to Harry? Sure he has limitations but he does a lot more good than bad, always shows up and plays hard. I like Skipp too and Bissouma. Bent is more hit and miss. We’ll score plenty against lesser teams, but we need a different plan against the big guys.

my point being == he needs a fresh start = theres a great player in there that has lost his Mojo for the moment = thats not gone forever , his star was tarnished after CR7 arrived , I totally agree with Eddie == but his type is EXACTLY our requirement and would be a STATEMENT .

not against Maddison but he is struggling for a World Cup spot right now , somehow not the explosive statement signing we would love , rather have a 1 season Modric [ even if he is in his 50’s !!!!] show the world how a centre-mid operates …………………….

My point exactly.

When times are hard, that’s when BIG players show up.

I personally think a better investment would be Maddison in Jan for 30m+, his numbers for goals/Assists are better than most of the England squad in forward positions.

If he weren’t so expensive this window I think we’d go for him.
Think he wants to come also.

Just look at how Hojbjerg receives and controls a pass, his touch and body shape. The limited options available to him once he has it.

Then do the same for Skipp. Then you’ll what Skipp offers that Hojbjerg doesn’t.

Going forward Skipp will be capable of sitting at the base of the midfield and controlling a game. This sort of player always seem to have time on the ball because they earn it before they receive it, and while they control it. They have a look and open the pitch up.

Unfortunately Skipp offers nothing more than PEH and Bentancur and with Bissouma’s arrival his opportunities look limited. What’s more worrying is his injury record since he came back from Norwich.

I think Fernandes has been underperforming for 18 months now.His loss of form seems to have coincided with his propensity to cheat and moan like fcuk.

I’d like to know how he really gets on with CR7 as he hasn’t really done anything since Ronaldo joined them.Even his vaunted set pieces have let him down and it was significant that in Utd’s two games Eriksen has taken on that duty.

Conte’s favourite is 352… He hasn’t used this with us yet though.

He plays 343.

When we switched to 424 against Chelsea, with Perisic and Bissouma and Richy and Lucas coming on, we managed to shut their midfield down and we started to create.. We put pressure on them and gained our first free kicks and corners of the game. Which we scored from.
They rang rings around us until we made the subs… I think if Conte would have taken off Son and Sessy earlier and made that formation switch earlier then we would have been fine.

think UTD beat us to this deal – paid about £40 m I remember . He still has a great scoring record for them [ believe its dipped a little lately hence we could be allowed access for chat] and I’m pretty sure his current market price would be in excess of £60m , even in his current form .
I wouldn’t call that dodging a bullet and he is still a young man , his career needs an up lift and we can provide it !!

Frankly, I hate 3-5-2. I think it’s too rigid and it is very dependent on the WBs being very good which ours clearly are not. We are playing two DMS at the same time and I have my doubts that Skipp is much of an improvement on either of them. Despite Hjojberg’s goal on Sunday, there won’t be many goals coming from any of these midfielders in a season. The problems were there to be seen in midfield on Sunday. Chelsea were quicker of thought and movement and ran rings around us. It’s a must to reinforce in this area even though we bought Bissouma who is also more of a DM than an attacking midfielder.

I think the whole squad have problems collectively, many haven’t become bad players overnight. Dysfunction always comes from the top, as we’ve seen with Levy. Utd’s owners should be embarrassed of themselves…

It was 3 years ago Bruno signed for Manure… I like him, always have… Hes contracted until 2026 with an option to extend another year. His market value is around 78 million.. Highly unlikely we’ll move for him now.

Fernandes is a one season wonder, he’s showing his true colours now.

Man.U overpaid for him.

We dodged a bullet.

Having Skipp back cannot have a downside , however it highlights the fact that we do not have that creative in the middle of the park .
He will bring a stubborness and a destroying aspect as a decent DM would , but he is not inspiring .
Stars are never easy to come by , but they are out there . Anybody watching City have already sensed that Haaland is the real deal , he HAS strengthened them .
Last year we finished second in the pursuit of Bruno Fernandes , there is unbelievable torment at Old Trafford right now and yet Fernandes , at his best , is indeed in the World Class bracket .
Why no interest in him at this time ? Sure , he chose them then but times have changed , he is exactly the player our Club is in need of and is currently “going through the motions ” in Manchester . I feel he is ripe for plucking , they do not revere him as in the early days and he needs refreshing . A good move all round ? Am I crazy – would he come ??????
