Said it before and I’ll say it again: I understand tribalism in football, but the sheer hatred and venom English fans of rival clubs reserve for Harry Kane is utterly bizarre. If Northern Ireland had a truly world class player I’d love him regardless of the club he played for.

Harry Kane isn’t everyone’s cup of tea and that’s just fine. It’s unusual in many respects that within the tribalism of football for supporters of opposing clubs to be vocally supportive of opponents’ players. Indeed, Alan Shearer was undoubtedly a phenomenal goalscorer, but all I ever saw was a guy who used his elbows as much as he used his feet.

Certainly, under Mourinho, the dark arts of embellishing the impact of fouls has become a more prevalent thing. Although in fairness, many referees need to watch an on-pitch action numerous times in slo-mo, and then still give the wrong result. For within reason, I’m not against a player making sure that the officials have witnessed something.
Kane’s ‘on my daughter’s life’ claim

Are the media part of the problem?
I take a view when all is said and done, many fans who ‘loathe’ certain individuals in football, do in truth simply loathe the fact that the individuals aren’t playing for their side. Harry Kane would walk into a good few of the world’s best sides. Didier Drogba was another player I had zero time for, but if I could edit his time in the Premier League, would I really not make him a Tottenham player – in my edit?
Perhaps broadcasters could help keep the balance by asking less accusatory questions to the players themselves after officials have made controversial decisions – ask the officials!

The idiocy of some football supporters knows no bounds, it really doesn’t.
Haters gonna hate… These are the same morons who, if in a stadium when he scores for a England would be jumping up and down chanting his name….
Football, does, it seems, attract the less intelligent of the human race.
They would ask the officials if they could, but they can’t.
Kane is a generational talent. He’s been with Spurs from a very young age, is a decent family man, hard-working, a leader, a fantastic striker and also maybe our best passer currently. So it stands to reason that some daft fans have to clutch at straws when trying to smear him.
They refer to his speech impediment (if it can be called that), supposed diving (sometimes he does exaggerate contact but a diver he definitely ain’t – look to Mo Salah and Fernandes for reference), “only scores tap-ins/penalties” from total belle-ds who never saw him play, some taking it as far as blaming him for the deficiencies of the national team, while turning a blind eye to far worse offenders – such as my old favourite Sterling whose efforts in the Three Lions shirt often essentially amount to sabotage.
The only thing I can find fault with is the oath on his daughter’s life – he could have handled that differently, as now, even if he would go on to score 500 league goals, some fans would use this to denigrate his record.
To a Czech man, it’s very surprising to see the lack of respect from many teams’ fans towards possibly the only genuinely world class player in the England shirt. Do they really not see what he brings to the table? Can they not put aside team preferences when cheering on the national team?
