Sky Sports man admits he was wrong about one Tottenham player after his exceptional performance vs Newcastle

Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp has openly admitted his misjudgment regarding Pedro Porro’s capabilities, acknowledging his transformation since joining Tottenham last January.

Initially met with skepticism from pundits and even former manager Tim Sherwood, Porro faced doubts upon his arrival.

He took a little while to settle but since then has very quietly gone onto prove his doubters wrong with brilliant performances.

In particular under Ange, he has gone on to produce consistently solid performances and has become an important part of the Australian’s side.

His recent standout performance during Tottenham’s 4-1 victory against Newcastle drew particular attention, prompting Redknapp to publicly acknowledge his earlier misjudgment.

He told Sky Sports:

“I think Pedro Porro deserves a special mention because this game would have been one of the toughest last year, when he played against Newcastle in the 6-1 away from home,”

“He played in a back four. And I remember saying after the game, Stellini at the time had taken over from Conte, he changed the system, went to a back four, and I remember thinking, he can’t play in a back four. It’s impossible.

“But he can. He’s not just playing in a back four, he’s going in as an inverted full-back. He is looking like a really good player right now. And I didn’t see that at the time, I thought his performances, and he only could play in a back three when he signed for Tottenham.

“That was a big performance from him, not just today, but all season. And again, the manager deserves a lot of credit with what he’s done with him.”

Tottenham were 5 games without a win before the Newcastle game. The win will come as a big morale booster for the team who are currently going through an injury crisis.

Their next game is against a tough Sean Dyche side who have been on a strong run. They are going to be coming into the game full of confidence with back to back wins over Newcastle and Chelsea.
