Sky Italia: Spurs Just €10M Away From Potentially Seminal Signing To Support Paratici’s Rebuild

By The Boy -

With Toby Alderweireld’s widely mooted departure to sunnier and wealthier climes underway, our attention turns to the business of a replacement.

Sky Sport Italia understands that Spurs are negotiating for Christian Romero and to date, the deal is just €10million from being agreeable to both parties.

Levy is going all out with this one, offering the Atalanta boy a five-year-deal. Personal terms are agreed, and the defender is keen to move to north London.

As things stand, Atalanta are seeking €40/45million plus a further €10million in prospective add-ons.

Given that Toby has reportedly gone for €14million (more than we paid for him), Spurs have just wiped £120,000 off the wage bill and the Belgian gets himself an £80,000 a week pay rise, this is good business all round.

So far, Tottenham have brought in approximately £13.50 for Juan Foyth, and £14.00 from Toby Alderweireld, and spent half that on a back-up goalkeeper.

This deal for Romero will take Levy into the red.

I hear what you say DB……but I don’t trust our owners one bit. They have proven to be a slippery operator and personally wouldn’t let them run a bath, let alone a multi million pound business.

I think we might be in a new era if our new Managing Director of Football has negotiated his role as diligently as I suspect he has. Like any MD he will be operating to an agreed budget and provided he is within his budget he will make a final decision.
Now we don’t know his budget or his real agenda for change. It’s looking brighter, but we don’t know how he goes about his business yet.
Seems Romero is on his way to us and haggling is expected.

We missed Skriniar by a reported £10m shortfall last season also. This penny pinching has served us all so well hasn’t it? That said, we have blown nearly £150m on Sanchez, Ndom and Lo Celso. That is ridiculous as not one was a proven player.

Same as Vinicius and Gedson I imagine, apart from loan fee no transfer yet.

There’s always the option of agreeing a price and then going back on the agreement once Atalanta sign a replacement – you know, to knock a few mill off and to make another chairman hate the name Daniel Levy.

Aulas could tell us all about that – remember the Lloris negotiations? Then again, he made us pay 56M for the permanently unfit Ndombele, so it’s probably fair do’s.

He has missed out plenty deals for a whole lot less than that.

Must admit that part of me is wondering how toxic the atmosphere will be at the first home game at the season and how much abuse will be vented at Levy.

Don’t think it will be as bad when the spammers turned on their owners a few seasons back…..but I’m sure it will be box office.

Yes it is. Nothing spent on him at all yet. If we miss out on Romero because of just 10m euros Mr Levy better go and hide somewhere.

JUST 10 Million short? Is that all? The last time we won anything major, you could buy a whole team for that amount!

I’m confused, (not hard at my age), isn’t the Gollini deal a loan with option to buy?
