Premier League side looking to snap up Ange signing from Tottenham this summer

By Saikat -

Tottenham Hotspur defender Ashley Phillips has been linked with a move away from the club at the end of the season.

A report from the Sun claims that Sheffield United are keen on signing the 18-year-old central defender on loan. The player is currently on loan at Plymouth and he has impressed with his performances for the Championship outfit.

He joined Spurs last summer for a fee of around £2 million and he was sent out on loan during the January transfer window. Phillips needs to play regularly at this stage of his career and shuffle unit could provide him with that platform. Although the Blades are one of the favourites to go down to the Championship at the end of the season, Phillips will benefit from regular game time in the second division of English football if he ends up at Sheffield United.

Ashley Phillips needs to leave on loan

Tottenham are currently well-stocked in the central defensive unit and they are unlikely to be able to provide him with any first-team opportunities next season. He’s unlikely to be a starter for them any time soon and moving in the summer would be ideal for all parties.

Spurs have Cristiano Romero, Micky van de Ven and Radu Dragusin at their disposal and they are expected to sign another central defender in the summer. Phillips would fall further down the pecking order if he stays at the club.

The 18-year-old is a long-term prospect for the North London club and he needs to focus on his development instead of playing for Tottenham right now. If he can continue to improve with regular football during his loan spells, he will eventually get an opportunity to prove himself at the Premier League club.
