Scouting for Spurs: Habib Diallo [video]

We took a brief look at Habib Diallo recently, thanks to the suggestion from BEin Sports that Spurs had already made an offer for the boy last January. The question is, would Habib be a good fit for Mourinho?

Habib’s heat map

Watching numerous clips, the Senegalese’s physical movement on the ball reminds me a little of Emmanuel Adebayor, as he has the ability to shield away defenders.

Many of his goals for Metz come through very similar patterns of play.

Habib can however, be quite handy when it comes to assists

The bottom line with this type of player is the clear gap between the standard of the leagues, and the issue of being able to offer the player enough first team game time to get him acclimatized, so he succeeds. Is Diallo the man for the job? At this level, it’s virtually impossible to tell…

There are good players in the French Ligue, it’s just that we’re (I mean he is) rubbish at picking them.

Looking at his heat map, the furtherest back he gets is the centre circle. Presumably his team concedes a few then. May require a map book to find his own defensive third. Does this mean that tracking back ‘Isn’t his bag, baby’ or he’s best kept away from that part of the ground? Looks more like a counter-attacking player. Comparisons to Adebayor are a little unfair at this stage – we know nothing about his family, his mum, his charities or susceptibility to voodoo.

At a stab…how many players have come from France and done well recently? this guy looks like a beast, but I could put anyone in the top 3 tiers into a pub side and they would look great. You can never be sure, but history has taught us that buying french strikers rarely ends well.

Is our scouting dept restricted to just France? The amount of Ligue 1 players we are linked with is incredible. We have been linked with half the Lille team and their kit man at this stage.
