Sabitzer Won’t Be Coming To Spurs | opinion

By The Boy -

There’s a piece in Bild this morning that suggests that 3 Premier League sides are interested in signing Marcel Sabitzer this summer. The suggestion that RB Leipzig might part with the central midfielder has been doing the rounds for a few months now and given Bild’s reputation, we might take the prospective asking price of £36million as accurate.

That’s half the problem. Quote how Tottenham would raise that class of money defeats me. This summer there is a glimmer of hope that fans could start to come back to stadiums in due, but that is like someone who owes you £5000, telling you that they’ve just popped a cheque in the post for £37.40.

Sabitzer is far too old for Daniel Levy to invest so heavily in. At 27, this is a player which a side like Spurs shouldn’t be considering buying at all.

Tottenham is now in the unenviable position of having an array of midfielders, which in an ideal world would be largely scattered into the four corners of the Premier League. If it were possible for Spurs to drum up some cash, it would be a self-defeating business to then reinvest in a player close to retirement – no matter what his transfer fee was.

Mind you, if Tottenham were to sign Marcel, it would make far more sense loaning Bale ever did.

I just read somewhere that Dyche won’t accept a penny less than 50 mil, which immediately put Spam and Moyes off.. His transfer market value is 13.5…. Dyche clearly wants to keep him.. Lol.. Its like Levy pricing Tintin at 150mil. Overpriced him because he wanted to keep him. To scare all buyers off.

If it comes to Pope at £30m or Johnstone at £10m, I guess we know which way Levys gonna go. That said, Johnstone too has drawn some applause this season

Popes market value is 13.5 million.. I’m not sure why some here are saying 30 million… Nick is 28 yrs old now.

You might be on to something here. Take the current England keeper who’s been rock solid for Burnley or a guy who will get relegated with WBA, but on a cut-price deal?

Yup. Or maybe Sam Johnstone would be more of a Levy-deal. Think his contract is up in 2022 too. English, 28 and not old for a goalie, a potential bargain.

According to the tabloids, Brighton turned down £30-40m offers for White last summer. Guess he`s far out of reach for Spurs now. Unless Levy puts on his big boy pants and starts making big boy bids

This is why I suggested also bringing in Pope (30M?) and possibly Ben White, who’s been really impressive whenever I saw him play for Brighton or Leeds, even though he’d be quite expensive.

Sabitzer’s age and contract situation do indeed suggest that Levy will either steer clear of this one or try to hang Leipzig out to dry, until a normal club comes in and buys him at a reasonable price.

We are going to have to be more strategic in transfers this summer, unless it’s an amazing deal other areas are a bigger priority esp with Skipp more our long term CM future.

The Austrians contract is up next summer. He will indeed be a bargain this summer, or potentially signed for free in January. Dele and Winks out, this one in? The homegrown quota will be a big problem though

36 million for a versatile hard working CM at his peak who also scores goals, has played at the top of the Bundesliga and has CL experience? To me, that seems like a bargain (not quite PEH-level, but still). A player that would, I imagine, be ideal for Jose.

If we sell Dele (30M?) and Dier (yard sale) then we could be in business…
