Romano reveals Spurs were ready to spend big money to sign 24-year-old but were shut down by club

Tottenham Hotspur were ready to spend significant money to sign a particular defender in the January transfer window.

Spurs are yet to finalise a deal for Radu Dragusin, having encountered late competition from Bayern Munich. The Bundesliga club have reportedly submitted a formal bid to Genoa for the player, which is said to be better than Tottenham’s.

However, Dragusin was not the first option for them. The club reportedly wanted Nice’s Jean-Clair Todibo leading up to this transfer window.

According to Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, via Last Word On Spurs, Tottenham were prepared to put in a big money offer to sign Todibo.

Unfortunately, Nice were unwavering in their stance, aiming to keep the center-back and not entertaining negotiations.

TBH Says:

It’s curious how we were willing to invest significantly in Todibo, yet now face the possibility of losing Dragusin to Bayern Munich for a mere €5m.

The deal, initially simple, was needlessly prolonged by Levy’s typical drawn-out negotiations, and Bayern have now put in a better offer. This situation might result in us missing out on yet another target.
