Romano reveals Spurs star ‘had a role’ to play as club pulled off January signing

By Saikat -

Tottenham Hotspur agreed on a deal to sign the Swedish midfielder Lucas Bergvall last night.

The 18-year-old midfielder is set to complete his medical with the North London club later today and he will sign a five-year contract with them.

The Djurgarden midfielder was a target for Spanish giants Barcelona as well. However, Tottenham managed to hijack the move and convince the player to sign for them instead.

Fabrizio Romano has now revealed that Dejan Kulusevski ‘had a role’ to play as the Londoners sealed the last-minute move.

The 23-year-old Tottenham winger convinced his compatriot to move to the Premier League instead of heading to Spain. Bergvall is highly rated around Europe and he is a prodigious talent. He could develop into a key player for the north London club in the coming seasons.

Bergvall will stay at Djurgarden until the end of the season and then join up with the Premier League club in the summer. He is expected to be a part of the first team squad at Tottenham next season and it will be interesting to see if he can secure ample game time under Ange Postecoglou.

Tottenham have reportedly paid €10 million plus bonuses for the highly-rated midfielder and the transfer could prove to be a masterstroke in the long run. The deal could look like a major bargain if Bergvall manages to adapt to English football quickly and fulfil his potential.
