Tottenham have been linked with Daniel James from Leeds United this summer.
The 24-year-old did well for Leeds last season and Antonio Conte is looking at the former Manchester United as a squad option. He scored four goals and picked up five assists in 37 appearances across all competitions last season.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Spurs have begun negotiations to sign the player before the window closes.
Apparently, they are looking to loan James with an option to buy him next summer.
James has been a regular starter for Leeds and he is happy to stay at Elland Road. It will be interesting to see if he is open to the move to the London club.
He is unlikely to start regularly ahead of Richarlison, Son Heung-Min or Dejan Kulusevski at Spurs.
However, a move to Spurs would allow him to play at a higher level and they can offer him Champions League football as well.
It remains to be seen how the situation develops now.
James knows all about warming the bench at a top club, having faced a similar situation at Manchester United. He needs to play regularly at this stage of his career and staying at Leeds would be ideal for his development.
I have not liked the way Levy has run our club for many years and I cannot believe that for a moment I thought Levy had changed his ways. He hasn’t. Let it never be forgotten; he failed every manager we have had with transfers and the one that hurts the most is failing Poch. Anyway, Conte is the real deal and well done on getting him but what will happen when he fails him?
Anyway, I digress, where I was nearly fooled was when it looked like we had passed up the chance of Eriksen – I thought great, we must be getting someone in as a playmaker with real class. Weeks have passed and now how I wish even more so that we got Eriksen back – because there ain’t anyone else coming!
Would be a poor and rather confusing signing. Nothing against the lad, but if true it reeks of making up the numbers rather than spending any money.
I’m not buying the £150M war chest and that we are favourites for 4th place as we still appear reluctant to pay the necessary fees to attract the top talent.
Have we improved: yes. Could we have done much better: definitely yes.
I’m not suggesting we have to pay the crazy prices being bandied around, but I find it rather predictable that we still haven’t attracted the quality CB and AM that we required at the start of the window, and still seem unhappy with the current wing backs at our disposal.
Add the fact that apart from Bergy and CCV, we have not raised any revenue from sales is shocking. In a year’s time we will see Winks, N’Dombele, Lo Celso, Rodon and Reggy return – with depreciated value.
Overall, a good start, but ultimately a rather Levy-esque transfer window.
Hmm interesting comments on Son ..I wouldn’t mind seeing him benched as Charlie does seem to fulfil Contes remit of going deep when needed as does Kulu..I’m not being particularly critical of Son ..just wonder what he can do after Charlie has softened up West Ham …That said we have only dropped a point ..
