Respect due: An Interception Masterclass From Spurs’ 27-Year-Old|video

By The Boy -

Ben Davies put in another solid shift and against Leeds achieved a successful passing accuracy of 90%, however it was the Welshman’s 11 interceptions that really stood out. Here are a handful of examples.

Davies also won 7 duels, made 4 long passes, and recovered the ball twice in in the Leeds’ half.

What Davies performance really demonstrated was how off the boil Eric Dier has become this season. Frequently the under sung hero for Spurs, this was another performance to remind fans of the respect the boy is due.

But by that logic every game becomes a big game. There has to be a balance. We saw what happened to one of our with Poch’s over reliance on him. We’ve got Vinnie now and I’d have hoped he’d done enough in the games has played to warrant a game or two in the PL.

I want him gone too, this is probably too harsh, but I want to win things.. Players should probably stay off social media. Personally if I read negative comments then I would be out to prove them wrong. But its bound to affect some players confidence.

‘As much as possible really’ I would have played them in both games.. We were top of the league against palace so was a chance to get a foothold before the scouse.. And Wolves were after the loss to the foxes so we were looking to get back on track there too.. Not big clubs, but fairly big games when everythings put into context.

Well, few are as good as those two – that’s a weak defence but it’s where we’re at.

Respectfully Palace and Wolves weren’t big games

Kane and Son need to play all the big games and as much as possible really.. Davies and Winks have both had a couple of good games, but against average opposition. Stoke and Leeds are not great. And they have both struggled in the ropey.. Our prem game before last davies gave away the corner in 90th minute and then gave his man a free header for the goal.. Winks Dele and davies just haven’t been good enough..

I’m glad this is highlighted , even though his better ones are not shown, and I thought I was the only who noticed his interceptions and general play, pointless trying to convince some but he has been a big asset since he came and still is.

Winksy played well yesterday too. It’s about game time. A run in the team will get players playing better. Something Poch rarely realised instead electing to flog them till they could play no more. Jose clearly recognises with this particular squad the need to rotate. Just wish he’d do it more with one of our own and Sonny

Yes i have critised him in the past, but will hold my hands up and commend his performance yesterday. He was arguably our best defender on the day with unusually good offensive play and accurate passing.I would just like him to be more positive and get forward more and produce better quality crosses into the area.Practise this in training more.

The same frustrating deficiencies apply en bloc to all our full backs who are no where as good as Messrs Robertson and Tierney respectively!!

If only he was able to supply some delicious inviting quality crosses into the box like the impressive Kieran Tierney and Andy Robertson we would be lauding solid but not spectacular utility defender Ben Davies to the hilt!!

People (ok, mainly Tappa) hate me saying it – but he’s a good squaddie.

The Phil Neville of the side.
