Report: Tottenham target with 22 goals & 8 assists left ‘irritated’ by the lack of formal offer

By Mehdi Gokal -

Porto striker Mehdi Taremi is reportedly frustrated by the lack of formal offers from clubs, including Tottenham, despite their expressed interest.

That’s according to Correio da Manha (via Sports View), who claim that the Iranian international, who enjoyed an impressive season with 22 goals and 8 assists in 33 league appearances, is said to be ‘irritated’ that ‘Tottenham and other clubs’ have not put in an formal bid for him yet despite the said interest.

With Harry Kane officially gone to Bayern Munich now, Tottenham are in the market for a new centre-forward and have been linked with several candidates including Taremi.

Gianluca Di Marzio claimed last week that Spurs are in contact with with Porto through agent Jorge Mendes to negotiate a potential transfer for him.

Di Marzio added that Spurs are ready to offer €24m for the striker while Porto asked for €30m.

Inter Milan are another club interested in signing him but it is reported that the Italian club are concerned about the hefty price-tag of the 31-year-old as well as the fact that he will be unavailable to play in January and February as he will be away with the national team at the AFC Asian Cup.

TBH says:

Whether Tottenham will move forward with a formal bid for the player or not remains to be seen.

However, a move for the Iranian is highly unlikely and while Mehdi Taremi is no doubt a top class player, there are options Spurs could consider.

One of them is 21-year-old Gent striker Gift Orban, and according to today’s report in Evening Standard, the club is expected to make a bid for him before the transfer window shuts.
