Report – Tottenham make an offer for a player that will likely split the fan base

By Bruce Grove -

Tottenham has made a lucrative contract offer that includes a huge signing-on fee to Chelsea ace Willian, according to reports.

The Brazilian is nearing the end of his stay at Stamford Bridge, and he was only offered an extension to his current deal that would see him remain with the Blues until the end of this extended season.

Several teams have been looking to sign him this summer, and his performances since the return of football have helped to attract even more attention to him.

The winger was signed for the Blues by Jose Mourinho and Football Insider is claiming that the Portuguese manager is targeting a reunion with him.

The report claims that Mourinho has personally held talks with the player over a summer move and that the Lilywhites have already tabled an offer for the 31-year-old to consider.

Willian is likely to divide opinion among the Tottenham fans. Some would prefer for their team to move for a much younger player from another team other than Chelsea.

Other fans haven’t forgotten how he snubbed them for a move to Chelsea in 2013 when all was almost set for the transfer to be completed, including his medical (The Guardian).

If Willian does sign for us it will split the fan base, that I am sure of. On a personal note, I do not want him anywhere near our club, not after what he did when he signed for Chelsea. Willian would only join Spurs for one last fat paycheck, let him get his mercenary bag of silver elsewhere.

Right wing willian all day… In the centre lamela is more effective… Willian more likely to win a game for you if hes anything like his old self. Reports are hes not the same player he was, hence why the chavs are letting him go on a free…. And can’t reply on previous thread, but my eyes are open, theres nothing wrong with sissoko mush, if anyones recently earned his place its him. He was our player of the season last year. Its all very well replacing 10 of your main players on fifa but this doesnt work in reality. If you sell too many and also bring too many in at once then it upsets balance. A full transition takes top teams 3 or 4 windows. Takes us longer due to our neverending incompetent transfer strategy.

I agree with what you are saying however if Levy is saying we can afford willian who will replace moura who is used to get milik from napoli? We get two players jose wants or knows one is proven in the league are we not stronger. You say we can do better but do not say who the better players are please tell who you would go for given the financial limitations.

Is another attacking player a priority, I don’t think so or maybe money isn’t as tight as Scrooge MacDuck has been telling us.

I have no objection to him joining Chelsea, he made the right career choice. He’s leaving Chelsea having won most of the big prizes and Vertonghen is leaving having won nothing. I don’t want him or Lamela here next season, we can do better than Willian and Lamela is no use to us with his injury record, sadly. Keeping Lamela is sentimental and part of the attitude that has held us back football wise.

I can see this one happening and don’t think it’d be a bad bit of business provided we also get another striker, a DM, and a replacement for Aurier.

One more point on willian if signing him means he replaces moura who is swapped for milik at napoli the striker, is he still a terrible signing. Again I take the point about him and other available targets. If other targets are from the French league again with past record on our signings from there and the fact willian is still a threat this year on his performances in the league is he still that bad. We don’t know what package we may have offered him if indeed any.

Lamela or willian? Just asking which you would prefer to have come on if chasing a game or trying to break a team who has shut up shop. I take your point on other targets and agree on above about the way he ran to Chelsea. However a team who pays top wages and wins things or us do you really blame him.

For a huge signing on fee and a lucrative contract surely we could do better than Willian. With clubs cutting back on wages if we have such a generous contract available we should have the pick of the talent who are out of contract. My test and I know it sets the bar high is would Liverpool or Man City have him as a starter. So no from me.
