Report: Tottenham is on the verge of completing a £20M deal for Middlesbrough defender

By Eddie Razo -

Tottenham Hotspur could be on the verge of improving their wing-back positions in a matter of weeks as Djed Spence is reportedly inching closer to heading to north London.

According to talkSPORT, Tottenham is on the cusp of concluding the £20m signing of the Middlesbrough defender. Spurs manager Antonio Conte made the 21-year-old one of his top targets after a terrific season on loan at Nottingham Forest last season.

He made 50 appearances last season for Nottingham Forest, scoring three goals and recording five assists.

Spence played a significant role in helping The Reds reach promotion into the Premier League, leading to interest from Premier League sides this summer. The report adds that Arsenal and both Manchester clubs were in on the defender.

If the deal does indeed go through, Spence will join Ivan Perišić as the newest wing-backs at Spurs as the team looks to build a squad that can compete in the UEFA Champions League next season and challenge for silverware domestically.

Yet Lewis never thought he could upgrade his godson? Shows the priorities for ENIC and it’s not the footy.

Well yeah, if you don’t embellish the squad with leaders then you’ll get a percentage reduction in productivity from everyone else… Football genius!

Conte wasn’t here when Royal arrived……

Sanchez did well coming into a world-class group of defenders. That’s the problem when Levy cheapskates out, the guys that need real leaders fall back. He’s a football man, don’t you know.

Sanchez is a decent player but he needs guidance. Jose didn’t like him for that reason but Poch and now Conte have got him into some decent form. He’s not a leader but as part of a cohesive unit with a coach that gets a lot of instruction across, he can be a very decent defender…

100% on the money. Doherty staying too and be used on left more. As soon as Reggie is gone it will become clearer. There will be no out going backs, maybe Rodon and if we can get a snicker bar for Sanchez.

So share your knowledge of who Conte has asked his chief to deliver. Can’t have it both ways. Conte is either driving with Paratici or he is not. Personally I think Max Aaron with more PL experience would be a better choice.
Southampton Salisu kinda tickle me a bit instead of these waffling backs for a left side centerback.

Which is why he won’t be sold.

This would mean Paratici having to admit he made the wrong call bringing him in by selling him on 12 months later. I might be wrong but he’s going to be staying at least another season at the very least before any call is made in that regard.

Royal won’t be moving on.

Something tells me that “Conte” is not the person putting this lad at the top of the wish list.

But fine, ship him in, ship Royal out, move on.
