Manager Antonio Conte is keen on upgrading Tottenham Hotspur’s wing-back situation this summer ahead of a season that will compete in the UEFA Champions League. Furthermore, the Italian manager wants to challenge for trophies domestically too, so fixing needs on the team is a must.

According to The Sun, Spurs are eyeing Middlesbrough right-back Djed Spence to fill the need on the squad and beat out their north London rival Arsenal to land the 21-year-old who has caught the eye of Premier League clubs during his loan stint with Nottingham Forest.

The English media outlet states that Conte views Spence as a potential right wing-back upgrade as he looks to invest heavily in his squad this summer. When it comes to the Middlesbrough loanee, he made 50 appearances where he scored three goals and recorded five assists.

Furthermore, the possible price tag for the wing-back isn’t known, but The Sun does add that Spence is rated at £15-million. So it will be interesting to see if he is indeed the player Spurs add to beef up their wing-back position.

I’ve been impressed by him on the pitch, but I get the impression that there is definitely a bit of an attitude in him that could be questioned, which maybe explains why he was sent on loan.

I think Traore is a bit of a punt also, but he has a truly unique skill set. He is capable of causing utter havoc running at defenders and whereas he is usually double marked for Wolves, other teams could not afford that luxury with Harry and Sonny up front (not to mention Kulu). Whether we are genuinely still in for the boy is another matter though.

I have watched them both a lot more than that.

No, but I think half the hype is him being judged on that one very inspiring game he had against Arsenal or whoever it was!

No surprise to find comments about Spence and Johnson after yesterdays game, not best judged on that one uninspiring game to be fair though, but they will be.

agreed …………….even though not sure of Traore , would have him over Spence all day long . But The Guvnor has my permission to make his choices !!!!!!!

I must confess I watched the Forest vs Huddersfield playoff game, primarily out of interest in the much touted Forest pair of Spence and Johnson. Now admittedly it was just one game, but I didn’t see anything which would have convinced me to buy Spence, either in performance or attitude. He looked nothing out of the ordinary and at times somewhat lacking in intensity. He seems like a project to me, like Sessegnon of a couple of years ago and if it was a choice between him and Traore, I would take Traore very time.

He’s basically a right sided Sessegnon isn’t he? 🙂
