Report: Tottenham have submitted a £42.5M offer for Villarreal star amid links to Man United

By Eddie Razo -

The backline for Tottenham Hotspur is an area in the squad manager Antonio Conte this summer to put alongside Eric Dier and Cristian Romero. Over the past couple of months, various players have been linked to the north London club to fill this role.

However, one name Spurs have been keen on since last year is Villarreal’s Pau Torres. However, the Spain international decided to remain with The Yellow Submarine to play UEFA Champions League football this season.

Nonetheless, Tottenham is recircling its interest in the 25-year-old and now are preparing an offer to make sure this summer they do indeed bring Torres to north London.

According to Cadena SAR the north London club has submitted a £42.5m offer to Villarreal for Torres. Despite the proposal, the Spanish media outlet states that the central defender has his heart set on moving to Manchester United.

It will be interesting to see if Spurs can convince Torres that their project under Conte is a better option than what Manchester United offers.

The best defender in italy is the english lad AC Milan signed from Chelsea according to the pundits. Koulibaly is the best for me

Sanchez was decent surrounded by Toby and Verts. Maybe putting better players around him might get him back to the level he was at when he first came in. Not sure being next to Deer will do that though!!!

Right I will stick my neck out here (and many reports in Spain are indeed saying he is close to signing for Manure)>
I dont want him. He turned us down last year and now is happy to play EL football (did they finish 6th?)
He looks weak to me it is easy to be a decent defender in Spain it is nowhere near as physical.
I call him the Spanish Foyth.

Paratici reputedly has a long list of players for every position he targets. I just suspect most of our transfers won’t be the much touted players… but some ‘under the radar’ types that are ‘almost as good’ and a few quid cheaper… which might also keep Levy from having poverty nightmares.

It depends how much Antonio likes Sanchez and Rodon. If he wants one or both of those two to be sold then we will need to bring in two new CB’s.

Only Romero, Dier and Davies are sure to be retained at CB for next season. I would like to see upgrades for the latter two and Bremer and Bastoni may be the best bets on that front.

Sanchez looked like he was worth every penny during his first season. In a decent team I still feel he’s a decent player. Perhaps, like so many others, dysfunction and negativity doesn’t bring out the best in the boy…

I bet we’ve bid nothing yet, hot on the heels of yesterday’s announcement will be a raft of nonsense regarding how we are getting stuck into spending our ‘war chest’, most of which will probably be used to build a luxury hotel…

Agreed – Davies may not be about to win the Balon D’Or but is this guy a significant upgrade on the welshie?

I also see Bastoni as the more likely target, Conte and Paratici seem to prefer players they know.

5 years ago we paid this figure, or near as damn it, for Sanchez. Another deal where we got our pants pulled down. I don’t mind over paying as long as we get quality. Torres has had a lot of good press in recent years, I definitely haven’t seen enough of him to know him inside/out but he is quick and can play. Maybe we can send Sanchez the other way, he’d look great in yellow!

Utd might be a mess right now but they can offer £100k a week more than us and it is Utd. The name means a lot, although to have your heart set on the move is pushing journalistic integrity. A dream move is going to a club that wins trophies.

I’ll be surprised if we buy two central defenders.

Imagining something similar to Johnstone, Bastoni, Bissouma, Spence, a left wing back and a forward.

Not sure we’re getting Eriksen on a free, could happen I guess.

I can think of no reason why the boy would ‘have his heart set’ on joining Man Utd. So I am guessing that Spanish report is a load of balls! Having said that, he didn’t unduly impress me in the CL games against Liverpool and as among his team mates were Lo Celso and Foyth, neither of whom could cut it in the EPL, I would be inclined to pass on him.

Conversely, given the success that we have had in acquiring the ‘Italian Defensive Player of the Year’, in Cuti Romero, I would be inclined to return to the well and buy the current ‘Italian Defensive Player of the Year’, Gleison Bremer of Torino (to challenge Dier at MCB), plus buy Bastoni as a LCB, who is a protege and big favourite of Conte’s.
