Tottenham Hotspur will be in the goalkeeper market this summer, but they’ll be looking for someone that’s comfortable with the backup role behind Hugo Lloris.

Last summer, the north London club did bring in Pierluigi Gollini to be the heir apparent to Lloris, but thus far, that loan deal for the Italy international hasn’t worked. Furthermore, the 35-year-old signed a two-year contract extension.

As a result, Gollini’s time with Spurs will likely end in June when his loan agreement expires, so they’ll seek a new backup. Football.London reports that Tottenham is currently the favorite to tie up a deal to bring 29-year-old West Brom goalkeeper Sam Johnstone in July when his contract ends.

This season, Johnstone has made 34 appearances for West Brom in the Championship, conceding 30 goals and recording 14 clean sheets. The veteran goalkeeper is one of a select group Tottenham is looking at to provide backup to Lloris in 2022-23.

The England international can help push the France international and possibly succeed Lloris in the long-term.

Bring in Sam Johnstone and let Hugo have the occasional day off in the garden with a bottle.
