The central defense will be a key focal point of Tottenham Hotspur’s summer. Manager Antonio Conte is keen on a left central defender to get an upgrade over Ben Davies and go along with Cristian Romero and Eric Dier.
Spurs are connected to several names, but one player the north London club seems focused on is Villarreal’s Pau Torres, who they were interested in this past summer.
According to Football Insider, Villarreal expects to cash in on Torres as he has two more years on his current contract. Furthermore, the Spanish club needs to raise cash; there is growing “confidence” at Tottenham that they could sign Torres for around the £45-million mark.
Torres helped The Yellow Submarine reach the UEFA Champions League semifinals, beating out clubs like Juventus and Bayern Munich along the road.
After spurning Spurs last year to play in Europe’s top competition this season, it seems as though Torres is open to a move; whether that’s in north London remains to be seen.
If this is true (and I would rather Dire was replaced than Davies) then it means Conte is certain he can eradicate the failure to put his head in when an opponent is going for the ball and that stupid habit of doing a John Curry (hands behind back/double axle).
Oh yes before a kind poster reminds me – that other habit of hands pointed towards a team mate when he himself has done eff all to prevent a shot.
I like Ben Davies. He’s a steady Eddie.
