Report: Spurs midfielder is being linked with a surprise January move to Premier League rivals

By Mehdi Gokal -

Young Tottenham midfielder Oliver Skipp is attracting interest from Premier League rivals Crystal Palace.

The 23-year-old has not been a regular in the Spurs starting line-up, with only 14 league appearances, 12 of which came as a substitute. He has fallen down the pecking order, with Ange Postecoglou preferring Pape Matar Sarr over him.

As per Matt Woosnam of The Athletic, Crystal Palace have now expressed admiration for the young midfielder and are interested in securing Skipp on loan. However, it is reported that Spurs are not willing to loan him out his month.

This decision is most likely influenced by Spurs’ current shortage of midfield options, with Sarr and Yves Bissouma set to miss several weeks due to their commitments in the African Cup of Nations.

Additionally, James Maddison is yet to return from injury, and Giovani Lo Celso has suffered a recent setback. As a result, Spurs have limited options in midfield, with Rodrigo Bentancur and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg being the primary choices alongside Skipp.

They are expected to sign another midfielder this month, with Ange said to be keen on signing a number 8. Conor Gallagher is a name linked the most, but any move for him would cost Spurs a lot of money. A summer move for the Chelsea midfielder would be a lot likelier.
