Cristian Romero has been linked with a move away from Tottenham Hotspur and Real Madrid are keen on securing his signature.

The La Liga champions made enquiries for the Argentina international defender at the start of the season and they could step up their interest in him in the coming months.

According to Give Me Sport, Tottenham are hoping to tie him down to a new long-term contract and they would be prepared to make him their joint highest-paid player. However, Romero could snub a new deal at the North London club, if Real Madrid decide to step up their efforts to sign him.

The report further claims that the Argentine international could push for a big-money move to La Liga. Real Madrid are one of the biggest clubs in the world and it would not be a surprise if the South American defender wanted to join them.

They could help him push for major trophies in the coming seasons. He has already won the World Cup and the Copa America with his country and he will look to win major trophies at the club level now.

Real Madrid could help him win league titles and the Champions League trophy. It remains to be seen whether Tottenham can convince him to sign a new deal with them.

He is the best defender at the club and his departure would weaken them at the back. They need to hold onto players of his quality if they want to win major trophies in the coming seasons. It will be interesting to see how the situation develops over the next few months.

Real Madrid are looking to build a formidable squad for the future and the 26-year-old would be a quality long-term acquisition for them. He is at the peak of his career right now and he could give his best years to the club.
