Report: Real Madrid forward declined an offer to join Tottenham this summer

By Eddie Razo -

This summer, Tottenham Hotspur wanted to improve their attack and add a supporting cast to compliment Harry Kane and Son Heung-min. The north London-based club did add Bryan Gil from Sevilla FC, but there was another Spaniard they also targeted.

Spanish media outlet Marca reports that Tottenham saw an offer for Marco Asensio turned down by Real Madrid. Asensio was the subject of various rumors but instead opted to stay in the Spanish capital.

According to the report, Tottenham boss Nuno Espirito Santo wanted to add Asensio or any other player to replace the goal production that Gareth Bale provided during the 2020-21 season.

However, it seems as though Asensio wanted to bet on himself and prove that he’s a player worth remaining with Los Blancos.

There are no further details on what deal Tottenham was offering for Asensio. Still, they weren’t alone in expressing interest in the 25-year-old as AC Milan targeted the player this summer.
