Tottenham Hotspur defender Eric Dier has been criticised for his performances this season.
The 29-year-old defender has been largely underwhelming in recent weeks and a report from the Evening Standard now claims that Dier has been playing through pain following an injury he picked up during last year’s World Cup.
The versatile defender has now decided to undergo surgery in order to fix a groin problem that he picked up during the World Cup. Reports claim that the player has been struggling with the issue for a while now.
Apparently, Dier has been playing through pain in order to help Tottenham push for european qualification.
It has been a disappointing season for Tottenham and they have missed out on Champions League qualification. It will be interesting to see if they can finish the season on a high and bounce back strongly next year.
Tottenham are yet to bring in a quality replacement for Antonio Conte and former midfielder Ryan Mason is currently the interim manager.
Meanwhile, Dier has a contract with Tottenham until the summer of 2024 and there are been rumours that the player could leave the club on a free transfer next year.
It will be interesting to see if Tottenham are willing to offer him a contract extension in the coming months.
The 29-year-old can operate as a central defender as well as a defensive midfielder. There is no doubt that he can be a useful squad member for Tottenham in the coming seasons.
