Roma midfielder Nicolo Zaniolo was heavily linked with a move to the Premier League during the summer transfer window.
However, the 23-year-old Italian ended up staying at Roma and a report from Corriere Dello Sport now claims that the player was “tempted by the advances” of the London club.
The report claims: “Nicolo Zaniolo, as seen in recent weeks is totally different from the one who was experiencing a rather particular moment in the summer, heartbroken by the non-renewal of the contract and tempted by the advances first of Juventus, then of Tottenham.”
Apparently, he was left heartbroken by Roma’s reluctance to offer him a new deal at a time when he was ready to commit his long-term future to the club.
However, the situation has now been sorted and the player has been impressed with the ambition of the club in the transfer market. Furthermore, he has had a chat with Jose Mourinho and he sees his long-term future at the capital club for now.
Antonio Conte and Fabio Paratici were reportedly keen admirers of the talented young attacking midfielder this summer and it will be interesting to see if the Londoners decide to renew their efforts to sign the player when the transfer window reopens in January.
It is no secret that Spurs need to bring in a quality attacking midfielder and Zaniolo remains a prodigious talent with a big future ahead of him.
