Report: Arsenal, Tottenham to battle for Brighton & Hove Albion right-back

By Eddie Razo -

The January transfer window is open, and Tottenham Hotspur could be on the verge of losing fullback Matt Doherty. As a result, the north London club could be looking for a replacement and someone that can provide Emerson Royal some competition for the right-back position.

According to The Daily Express, Tottenham is ready to challenge Arsenal in the £50 million race for Brighton & Hove Albion’s Tariq Lamptey. The 21-year-old has established himself as a crucial part of Graham Potter’s squad.

Lamptey arrived in 2020 from Arsenal for £3-million, and this season, he’s made 13 appearances for The Seagulls, who sit in ninth place and seven points out of a UEFA Europa League spot.

The report also states that manager Antonio Conte is keen on the player. Still, Tottenham has to beat out The Gunners, so it’s becoming a bidding war between the two London clubs, and Brighton & Hove Albion hope to cash in if an offer is too significant to pass up.

I suspect 50M is quoted to put clubs odff,at the end of the day they won’y get anything like that.An alternative could be Livaramento of Saints.

Potter runs the show with a limited budget and probably realises he wouldn’t get that freedom here.

I would not be spending 50 million on a full back that’s for sure…. there must be other options… surely there were midfielders/full backs at the Euros worth looking at… yes, money needs spent but 50 million on a full back bearing in mind all the deficiencies in our sqaud doesnt make sense to me, unless we have 200-250 million to spend…

I agree with Digne and with Lamptey would show good intent this month. We could do worse than look at Phillips from Pool as a modestly priced CB.A back up striker and that would be a good window.

50 million? Lol. Why arent we interested in Lucas Digne whose out of favour at Everton? Maybe Rafa would entertain a swap deal involving Alli?

The big difference is Potter doesn’t have an egotistical control freak of a chairman breathing down his neck.

He was signed a year ago from Chelsea not Arsenal, he would be a great signing which I hoped for, and considering his limited time on the pitch through injury he has really taken the eye as a WB and is still inexperienced. He can only get better, however the quotes of £50m are extreme, when a year ago he was stolen for £3M, but it proves how good the youth system is at chavs that they let him go for such a low fee.
It also shows the brilliance of Potter in his recruitment of players in the lower end of the market.

Why would the arse want Lamptey? They have Tomyasu and Chambers who are both bestter than our RBs.I’ve mentioned before that we should go after Lamptey, but unlike Levy Potter is building a team at Brighton.
