Report: Antonio Conte keen on beating out Wolverhampton for Sporting’s £23M talent

By Eddie Razo -

The midfield will be undergoing more of a makeover than it has already with the recent purchases of Pape Matar Sarr and Rodrigo Bentancur.

According to Jornal de Noticias, Spurs are plotting a move to land Sporting CP’s João Palhinha before the end of the month. The report states manager Antonio Conte is a keen admirer of the 26-year-old.

Palhinha has played most of this season as a defensive midfielder for the Portuguese giants, so it seems as though the Italian tactician feels that the north London club must beef up that area in the midfield.

Spurs aren’t the only Premier League club eyeing the midfielder, as Wolverhampton Wanderers are also keen on the Portugal international.

Also, with the FIFA World Cup right around the corner later this year, it’s no surprise he might to risk being in a more prominent league to secure his spot on the national team.

In 36 appearances for Sporting, he’s scored three goals with zero assists.
