Dayot Upamecano. He may have only just turned 21, but I believe he is already the best centre-back in Europe. He is built like Kaboul, has world class speed, reads passing lanes as well as Sergio Ramos, attacks balls in the air like Van Dijk and is as positionally sound as Toby. He is the perfect central defender.
Timo Werner. He has finally emerged and become one of the best midfielders in the world this season. He has exceptional pace and is a clinical finisher (their only quality finisher). He likes to play down the left and you can bet that he will be lined up against Serge. The recent change in systems has really hurt his productivity. He was often the recipient of the balls they won back using the high press, now that they don’t press the same way any more, those chances have evaporated.
Konrad Laimer. Underrated defensive midfielder. When Jose went to the Bayern-Leipzig match last week, I bet he is the one player that impressed Jose most. I see him as a slightly bigger/stronger Ngolo Kante – he NEVER stops running and never seems to run out of energy.
Turns out that he is suspended, which is a massive break for us. I coach/teach defenders, he is the best I have ever seen at his age. He can be pressured on the ball to make a mistake or two, good point there. But, he is so fast he often covers his mistakes. But, he has only made one major mistake on the defensive side in the last two months, and luckily for him Bayern missed the PK.
They build from Upamecano taking the ball from the keeper, saying he’s the best is stretching it to put it mildly, put him under pressure and lets see what happens.
