Pundit urges Spurs to get rid of 25-year-old who “shouldn’t be anywhere near” the team

Lianne Sanderson has brutally criticised Tottenham defender Emerson Royal and urged the club to sell him.

Spurs recently bid farewell to two of the club’s longest-serving players, Hugo Lloris and Eric Dier. Former English footballer Lianne Sanderson suggests that the club should also consider offloading another player.

In a brutal assessment of the player, she claimed that the Brazilian left-back should not be anywhere near the Spurs squad.

Speaking on The Spurs Chat Podcast, she said:

“Eric Dier, I know he’s been a good servant to the club, but you have to get rid of those types of players. I still think players like Emerson Royal shouldn’t be anywhere near the Spurs squad. Yes, he’s not starting many games, but the standards Spurs are looking for, those types of players can’t be there.”

The North London club signed Emerson Royal from the La Liga giants Barcelona on the last day of the summer transfer window in 2021 for a fee of €25 million. He signed a 5-year contract with the club, which runs until June 2026.

Despite not being the most technically gifted player, the Brazilian international has demonstrated his importance as a key squad member for Ange Postecoglou, showcasing versatility in occupying different positions in the backline when required.

His playing time has become limited since Pedro Porro replaced him as the first-team right-back but he remains a decent backup.
