Pundit reveals why he thinks Daniel Levy is perfect for new ECA role

By Bruce Grove -

Noel Whelan says Daniel Levy is the perfect person to be elected as a director at the ECA to represent the other Premier League top six clubs because he doesn’t care about falling out with others.

The ECA confirmed his appointment recently, months after he led Tottenham to become one of the clubs that attempted to break away from UEFA to form the European Super League.

Tottenham have since renounced their membership of the ill-fated ESL and have been reintegrated back into the European governing bodies.

Not every football fan or organisation will enjoy the fact that Levy has been given this position, but he remains one of the best assets that they can get considering his work at Tottenham.

The Spurs supremo has become one of the hardest people to negotiate with and he has also turned the Lilywhites into a major force in English football over the years.

Whelan reckons that his style of running Tottenham will benefit any organisation, including the ECA.

“He’s not afraid of falling out with people, is he?” Whelan told Football Insider.

“He’ll fit right into that team of people on the board. He’s a businessman, he’s a very intelligent man as well. Runs a very good football club there.

“I’m sure he’ll be an added asset to the committee and the votes wouldn’t have gone lightly.

“They think about these ones, it’s a very important position. There’s a lot of respect that goes to Daniel Levy that other peers have gone and given him the backing in this role.

“You’re better having somebody in there from one of these six (English Super League clubs) than none of them.

“You’ve got to have a voice, you’ve got to have somebody in there that was part of this breakaway.

“I think in the long run, it is more beneficial to have one of the bigger six on the board and on this committee to stay ahead of the curve and to stay in touch with everything.

“It’s a bit more about looking over it and making sure they’re doing the right thing. I think it’s the right thing to do.

“One of the top six should be in there and Daniel Levy’s got their backing on this one.”

We bemoan his running of Spurs based on one League Cup in his 22 years of stinking the place out. ‘Bemoan’ is being polite…

Although we bemoan his running of Spurs, he might do a good job in this role and how overall football clubs goes about their business.
He was elected by other club members which must say something.
