Pundit questions Mourinho’s style as he looks to win trophies

By Bruce Grove -

Jose Mourinho has got Tottenham fans dreaming of their team winning a title for the first time in nearly 60 years.

Under the management of Mauricio Pochettino, Spurs looked like a team that could win several trophies, but they didn’t win any.

The club has made the right decision to replace the Argentinean with Mourinho, who is a serial winner.

The Portuguese manager has won trophies at every team that he has managed and Spurs look set to become the next team that he will lead to silverware.

Mourinho, however, doesn’t care so much about the type of football that his team plays, as long as it gets them results.

Spurs have been known to play some of the best-attacking football and Stan Collymore believes that Mourinho must win trophies, else he might do some damage at Spurs when he leaves.

“Tottenham’s victory over Manchester City on Saturday was a counter-attacking masterclass,” the Former Liverpool striker wrote in his Daily Mirror column via HITC.

“But Jose Mourinho’s methods must bring trophies because, if they don’t, he will lose players who want to play expressive, expansive football.

“And fans, when they return, won’t want to watch a perfectly capable attacking team sitting deep for long periods. Don’t get me wrong, I hear those Spurs supporters who want trophies and don’t mind how they get them.

“I just fear there will be damage done down the line when Mourinho goes.”

You’re no lunatic. You are the only real plonker ‘on here’ though, with about the same insight and sense as Stan….. Can’t reply on the other thread but the fa cup isnt worthless either. And Jose does care about it. Watch the amazon doc and his fa cup team talk speech to prove my point… Winners mentality.. Which is what the game is all about….. Pretty flicks and tricks with no substance is worthless… Spurs style and identity what you keep banging on about can only be described as spursy. For most of my lifetime I have watched losers and guys not good enough get beat.. Theres no glory in losing.. Reminds me of my mate who can do unlimited keepie ups, round the world ronaldinho style, balance it anywhere and can do every trick in the book.. Now stick him out on the field for 90 mins and he’s useless, can’t fight or battle or win to save his life. You need flair players of course, but the complete team has a perfect balance/blend of different types of players all bringing different attributes.

I think he’s probably realised that stroppy Jose only worked when he was winning titles and Champions League titles with huge budgets.

He’s had to reign it in as he’s not been at the top table for a number of years and other managers are up there with and above him in reputation as a result. He clearly has a point to prove.

We’ll see if all this is enough to overcome the opposition…

No disrespect meant to a legend. Bill Nick carried on from Rowe and improved, yes with style. Burkinshaw rebuilt totally and left us with a smile. Poch just was not backed in the market, where Jose amazingly is, must have that persuasive touch, but is a born winner, El Tel was not around long enough, Jose had a disgusted look on his face when the shot from city hit their own player stopping a potentail goal and will win us things after giving us a missing mean edge. My comments are purely conversational and, to me, a part of what football should be, fun, allowing all to have a point, and controversial. COYS!

I think the point that Jose is going to cause ‘damage’ is complete cr*p but his point about the style of play is valid.

Or you get people with a massively over inflated sense of self importance who believe everything they say is fact, insult people who don’t agree and end it with a smiley face…😂

When Jose wins the double playing with style come back to me… 😂

It’s this kind of dismissive attitude to our traditions that I find the most hypocritical. I’m quite shocked actually… cult of Jose even brings out some disrespect for Bill Nic? Classy.

Of course Jose is a great manager but Bill’s football was revolutionary. Jose’s isn’t, it has been very effective but it depends, more trophies playing defensive football or the double avd other stuff playing with style.

I’d take the latter all day long, so overall Jose is not the better manager from where I see things.

What fans are these of which you speak that don’t ‘credit’ anyone? A figment of one’s imagination?

I think that’s a rather insightful observation by Collymore. Although on here you get accused of being a lunatic to even to suggest such a thing, by plonkers mind… 😂

I am going to commit sacrilege. Jose is a better manager than my and perhaps your second best Spurs manager ever, apologies Arthur Rowe. I loved, and still love that dour yorkshireman who transformed the club after willie young’s mate terry neill, decimated Bill Nick’s wonderful early seventies side and left us really in it. Is Jose a better manager than Bill Nick, who, the same as Keith leaves me with a warm feeling inside? COYS!

For Jose it’s about balance between defence and offence but I think this parking the bus stuff is a bit over played. Some of our attacking has been fantastic but you’re not going to get the Ossie style attacking play because we lost 4 points this season because we didn’t defensively do a job well enough.

You’re so right but unfortunately there’s too many ex-players/pundits/journalists, etc that will not give THFC any credit. (Some supposed THFC fans too!)

I’ve a strong feeling José is on an unprecedented bonus to win silverware & he’ll know he can’t revert to the José of old, no top club would give him a look-in if he does.
But I’m not sure how a club that’s risen several levels would lose players when it’s obviously clear they’ve ALL bought into the methods, tactics, mentality, STYLE OF PLAY, etc.

“I just hope fear there will be damage done down the line when Mourinho goes.”

These disingenuous, irrelevant old fools just need to shut it.
