Pundit criticises Harry Kane’s play that earned him a penalty

By Bruce Grove -

Martin Keown claims that Harry Kane’s penalty against Brighton on Sunday shouldn’t have been given, that it was the England captain who backed into Adam Lallana and that it was dangerous play.

Kane scored Tottenham’s first goal against the Seagulls from the spot after a controversial penalty had been given against Lallana.

Both players were vying for an aerial ball, but Kane didn’t jump, while Lallana jumped to contest for the ball and he appeared to have fouled Kane who fell on the ground.

The play appeared to had happened outside the penalty box initially, but a penalty was given.

Keown was speaking on Match of the Day 2 and he claimed that it was a bad play from Kane and he added that he didn’t agree to it being a penalty.

Keown said as quoted by Mail Online: ‘The referee has had a really bad afternoon, this is Harry Kane, I believe he knows exactly what he is doing.

‘He looks at his opponent, knows what he is going to do and makes a back for him. I think it is dangerous play from Harry Kane and he knows what he is doing and I don’t even think it is a penalty.’

It was a clear penalty and Keown sounds bitter and a little salty, it, of course, has nothing to do with the fact that Tottenham won and are above Arsenal in the standings.

Agreed yeah he set lollapalooza (typed lallana that was autocorrect lol) up but why not if you know that a defender will commit and give you the foul why not

I agree with dermot Gallagher for once kanes was clever but a foul so a pen, if tossers hadn’t dived down the opposite way he was pulled back he may have got a pen and the goal should of been disallowed!

Harry only did what we’ve not done enough of in the past which we definitely need to do more of if we want to win.

The teams that win things do this all the time.

Keown stated that Spurs had players diving all over the place. I agree. If that is what Maureen meant by being clever c*nts, I’m going to quickly find Jose’s Tottenham really bloody irritating.

I wonder if you may have something in the ‘leveling up’.

BBC Tweeter: “West Brom have to be the most uninspiring team in the Premier League. They just plod through games and crumble far too easily (see Chelsea match).
Hang on: We play them next!!

Sensational goal!

That’s surely the goal of the weekend?

Fulham are in dreamland as Aleksandar Mitrovic tees-up Ola Aina to send a thunderbolt past Sam Johnstone.

The West Brom keeper had no chance of getting to that.

Being a Midlander with some Baggies friends no guessing where my allegiance lies for this one! That said I do have a soft spot for Scotty Parker!

Harry was never as you suggest vying for an aerial ball,he only had eyes for Lallana, there is nothing in the rules and Harry seen it as a free lunch. I don’t believe the ref would have given it if he knew it was in the penalty area,VAR changed it to a penalty, maybe that’s why the ref allowed Brightons equaliser to level things up.

As mentioned by the media it was a clever merited penalty not that diving one!!

Kane did indeed back in. One of a few dreadful decisions by a dreadful ref.
