Pundit contradicts himself over Tottenham star leaving the club this summer

By Bruce Grove -

Former Man City and Leeds United defender turned pundit Danny Mills, has become very outspoken about issues concerning Tottenham in recent weeks.

The former player really does talk too much, and he now contradicts himself in almost the same sentence.

Mills was talking about the future of Jan Vertonghen recently and he claimed that it would be a blow to lose the Belgian who is on the verge of leaving Spurs for free.

However, further down in his comments, he claimed that Tottenham wouldn’t care if he joins a rival or not.

These comments make you wonder if Mills knows exactly what he is talking about right now.

Speaking to Football Insider, he said: “It would be a blow. I do wonder whether he’s suited to Manchester City though.

“He’s got experience and he’s very, very good, but it’s one of those, I think you can’t control it. If you don’t want a player, you have to accept that they’re going to go wherever they want. If you’re saying you don’t want him cause he’s not good enough, pretty much.

“Effectively you’re saying you don’t want him, so if somebody else wants him, good luck to them. I don’t think Spurs or Mourinho will be bothered in the slightest where he goes.”

Vertonghen is one player that is almost certain to leave Tottenham at the end of this prolonged season.

The 33-year-old will shortly be out of a contract and he has been linked with a move to several teams around Europe including top six teams in the Premier League.

There is still a possibility that he could yet be offered a new Spurs’ deal and no doubt there will be an abundance of opinions from pundits about the situation.

But it would lend more credence to the opinion of pundits if they did not contradict themselves so blatantly, especially two-bit pundits.

We shouldn’t but we do. I would like for him to him put to pasture in a nice home with his comforts and know that he is happy before I say goodbye and leave him there. 👍

So effectively he is the Schroedinger’s cat of punditry!!!

Right or wrong in a wrong/right sort of way.

It’ll be a less strenuous League for Jan, possibly Italy. He’s still playing for Belgium I think so he will want to play regularly. Deserved to win something so hope it happens at his new club.

I liked him when he was slagging off Utd, he had a bit of passion. Grammar School lad though, he has a bit more in his locker than Jamie O’Hara on TalkSh*te.

Losing Jan is a blow in the sense of him not being the player he was two or three seasons ago. In that respect we’ve already lost him.

We shouldn’t care where he goes next because at 33 he’s not going to improve.

Maybe not a favourite of everyone, but I think Gary Neville is worth listening to at times.

He is not wrong though he may be worng
Jan is just what Citeh need to stabilise their defence / He is too old and slow and would be a liability to any pacey winger.

I make Danny right / wrong

Jan hasn’t the pace to cope playing the high press City play if they lost position. They’d need Ederson on his shoulder! As for football pundits, very few can converse in a sensible manner. They’ve played at a high level but most haven’t a clue how they managed it! As a result they talk a pile of manure whilst trying not to bite the hand that feeds them and the product they are selling. More Roy Keane’s needed.
