Tottenham Hotspur headed to Anfield this weekend in an attempt to secure some points for their top-four race. However, on the other side, Liverpool hoped to pick up three points to stay on par with Manchester City in the Premier League title race.
Both squads needed the win, but after 90 minutes, the result was a 1-1 draw. Nonetheless, despite both teams dropping points, BT Sport pundit Pete Crouch states that the outcome of the fixture was more disastrous for The Reds and labels their title chances as over.
“I’d have to say yes. The standards these two clubs have set, they don’t lose many, they don’t draw many, you’d expect City to go on and win every game now,” Crouch said on BT Sport (via Daily Mail)
“We said before the game this could be the potential banana skin because Tottenham defensively they had bodies behind there. What Tottenham have got, lots of teams haven’t got, is three players upfront that can hurt any team and they proved it tonight.”
Manchester City can create a three-point buffer should they walk away with a win over Newcastle United. After this weekend, there are only three fixtures left for both clubs, and if Pep Guardiola’s squad wins out, then they’ll claim another Premier League title.
The draw doesn’t affect Spurs too much, considering they have a match this week against Arsenal and The Gunners are prone to slipping while dropping their share of points.
After the North London Derby, Arsenal has Newcastle United and Everton left on their schedule; meanwhile, Spurs have Burnley and Norwich City.
win on Thursday and no more slip ups from us ,we need Everton still mathematically possible to be relegated on last day of the season.
As someone else put if we dont win Thursday we dont deserve anything.
Yeah this game has not lost us CL football in fact after Stevie’s miss I was more than happy not to lose. The games that stand out as bad losses………well you know them better than me.
Leeds gk has given them a goal in farcical fashion and they have just added a second.
I can’t see Leeds getting anything…more likely to get beat 4-0
Well lets hear it for the boys , backs to the wall and so unlucky not to have taken all 3 points .
That’s not to say that [ possession at least] Liverpool were in the ascendancy , but this was a typical Spurs counter-style performance from them and we go to Thursday still holding a chance .
What would we do for a similar effort from Leeds Utd today !!!!!!
It’s all very exciting , innit ?????
