Proof Tim Sherwood doesn’t know what he’s talking about

By The Boy -

There’s a reason -no, sorry, there are many reasons why Tom Sherwood is no longer in football management. This place has closely documented the wisdom of Spurs’ one-time caretaker coach, but this week we were treated to rare insight from the man that has ‘had a hand in‘ (to paraphrase one of Tim’s own great lines) clubs such as Swindon Town and Aston Villa getting relegated.

Rodrigo Bentancur had a very good game against Everton on Monday night, yet Sherwood blasted Tottenham’s new signings, on live TV.

“What they do is buy is Bentancur, who gives the ball away more than he keeps it, and when he keeps it, he goes square and backward. Kulusevski looks okay, but a development player. We are developing for someone else.”

Sky Sports News (1:27pm, March 5, 2022).

If we look at Rodrigo’s passing overall, it was 95% successful, but what flies in the face of Sherwood’s dig, is that the former Juventus player only fluffed two forward passes; his passing in this discipline hitting 88%.

Bentancur forward passing

This is a one-dimensional way to judge a player, as we have learned with Harry Winks and Bentancur offered more.

The boy’s passing to the final third hit 82%.

Elsewhere, the 24-year-old made 5 interceptions and made a couple of useful progressive runs.

Perhaps Tim should stick to calling the goals as they go in, over on the BBC?

We used to be a domestic cup team. At one point we were FA cup record holders. We’ve not won anything in over 20’years under ENIC and you want to come here and somehow say it’s ok as only 4/5 other teams have dominated. It’s not okay, ENIC are not okay. Had they truly wanted to win stuff they would’ve invested more into the actual football team not real estate.

He was coming I’m sure it wasnt an urban legend that Sugar had got him a taxi but it somehow got scuppered (the deal not the taxi) and he ended up a Goon

But we were almost there. We actually finished runners up and now languish 6th/7th.
Your opaque backing of Levy is pointless pal.

When I saw that Sherwood was a pundit for Monday nights match I switched over to sky to watch instead. Bentancur looks a player, Kulu has a great attitude and grafter but we’ll see.

Bentancur is not only skillful, but plays with heart. I was impressed when he yelled “hey! Man up!!” to either Davies or Sanchez in one of his first matches. That was brilliant. Massive upgrade on Winks.

I was sceptical of Kulu, thought he looked too slow, but he’s winning me over. He did well at Etihad and was great vs Everton.

While talking about winning do you know there are only 7 clubs that won the league since Aston Villa in 1991-92. Mancity was not even a top finisher until 2011 and finally won in 2014. The league had been dominated my ManU, Arsenal and Chelsea and lately ManCity. Liverpool with all the fame only won once with Leicester and Blackburn Rover copping one title each. So tell me about the rest of the league and their great purchases and Managers. I understand the frustration with Spurs and Levy, but it is not like the rest of league has been able to find the formulae to unseat the top 4. It is not like since1961 we were burning up the league. Even though it took Liverpool 30 years to win another title the richness of their history surpass that of Manchester United until Sir Alex came along. So over the history of the league one club from time to time dominates an era and there is nothing the rest of the league can do about it. Right now it is City time.

Ok. The football played do not add up to your arguement. He is at the club for a few weeks and right away shows he has the mettle to complete and is not overwhelmed by the pace of the game. Sherwood on the other hand. I said nothing about him being a manager. You twisted what I say to make an irrelevant point. I was referring to his punditry which is the subject. His analysis of Rodrigo’s performance was not of someone who actually saw the game, and I do not need Harry’s arrows and heat map to know he has an exceptional game.

I think Sherwood got Bentancur confused with Winks judging by his description. These 2 are the best signings we’ve made in recent years by a mile. Both look very good buys indeed and I hope I never see Winks on the pitch ever again.

Not sure there ever was a doubt about Tim ‘nice but dim’ Sherwood being an objectionable f**kwit?

From my recollection, he wanted out of Italy & wished to play in the Premier League with THFC his preferred choice as he was a boyhood fan who idolised Glenn Hoddle, but unfortunately, for whatever reason, THFC never bid or weren’t in the running(?)

Well if any of us were fortunate to manage Spurs with a respectable PL win ratio before being unceremoniously dumped as was Sherwood naturally we are entitled to be miffed?!! Surely no denying his passion on the touchline or reviving Aderbayor’s flagging career at the time?!!

Do me a favour give the much maligned guy a break when because he performed admirable managerial duties during his short tenure at Spurs I rest my case!!

My abiding memory of Sherwood is that he was sent by Redknapp to scout Luis Suarez whilst he was playing for Ajax. He later reported that he felt Suarez could not play in the same side as VdV. The rest is history, he went to Liverpool. Now , we have allowed Liverpool to sign Diaz in front of us due to Levy’s ditherings and prevarication. We never learn.

lol. just messing with you DD. But you’re certainly in the minority if you think Sherwood has any credibility. I much prefer the opinions here than those of any so called pundits. Well, most of the opinions here.

You don’t have to reach a judgement on our new boys to know without doubt Sherwood is wrong.

Disagree.Everybody wake up and smell the coffee beans and live in the real world focusing on one of Levy’s harshly sacked manager’s who ain’t too shabby accomplished a respectable PL success
rate of 59.9 per cent win ratio after 21 PL games!! Whilst both have produced promising performances I am reserving judgement on both Bentacur and Kulu until the end of the season.

Tapped in into the empty net….. Sherwood probably criticize the player for not hammering it in. He is a clueless angry man.

As the story goes, the football expert himself Alan Sugar decided British was best ….hasn’t really worked out for us, as far as club owners has gone either.

Nice article, but HH, was the question ever in doubt.

Most of these ex players seem to talk rubbish when they put on a suit & sit in a studio, similar to a politician
…..toeing the party line.

I’m of a relatively younger generation of Spurs fans. Is it true that we might’ve signed Bergcamp but opted for Sherwood?
