Carragher Warning: Spurs Are One Side That Will Definitely Come Into Project Restart Reinvigorated

By Bruce Grove -

Tottenham will play Manchester United in their first league game back when football returns.

The Lilywhites want a good end to the season which could be translated to mean they want to end this season in a Champions League place.

Before the suspension of football due to the coronavirus pandemic, it wasn’t going to plan for Jose Mourinho’s men at all with key players getting injured and the team’s overall form nosediving.

However, When football returns, Mourinho will have a fully-fit team to select from and Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher reckons that this window has been helpful to Mourinho’s team.

The former Liverpool defender claims that the break has helped the Portuguese boss to have the preseason that he couldn’t have with this team in the summer because he wasn’t their manager at the time.

He said via his column in the Telegraph: “Nobody at the club will want to admit it, but the suspension of the Premier League — and I mean this solely from a sporting perspective — arrived at an opportune moment for Spurs and Mourinho.

“Spurs were in terrible form at the time, eliminated by Norwich in the FA Cup, and outclassed in the Champions League by RB Leipzig. Mourinho had good reason to start looking to the future.”

On this break helping Mourinho to get the preseason he never had with the team before now, he said: “The three-month break has effectively given Mourinho the pre-season he craved. He is not able to sign players, but he is welcoming key ones back.”

“The presence of Kane and Son means Spurs will be a different side in June to what they would have been in April. Although lots of the focus will be on the availability of the England captain, it is Spurs’ ability to use Son which is the game-changer for Mourinho.” He continued.

“Kane will score goals in any system, so the tactical shape is not necessarily compromised with or without him. It is Kane’s strike rate which makes him so important.

“But what Spurs really lacked before lockdown was someone with the pace to worry defenders. Son’s presence brings that.”

I’m not sure it’s been a huge advantage apart from the chance for the injured players to recover. Jose hasn’t been able to do any tactical work on the ground until recently and that has been hampered by having to work in small groups. We’ll find out shortly if it’s made any difference, here’s hoping.

Ain’t that a fact. I think Jose’s done well considering. (Mid season sad team) then to lose two of your best players. Keep it moving josacramento.
