Newcastle striker Callum Wilson has poked fun at Tottenham and their players’ gesture of refunding the traveling fans their money after the 6-1 defeat.
The Magpies have enjoyed a great season under Eddie Howe and are on track to finish in the top 4.
And they secured their best win of the season last month when they met Tottenham in what was regarded as a huge game in the top 4 race. It ended up in a humiliating defeat for Tottenham as Newcastle thrashed them 6-1, 5 of those goals coming in the first half.
Tottenham players apologised to their fans after the game and announced to reimburse all the traveling fans who took the effort to come watch their team perform so poorly.
And when Wilson was asked if Newcastle players would have done the same, he told Footballer’s Football Podcast, he couldn’t help but troll Tottenham by saying: “We wouldn’t go 5-0 down!”
It ended up being the last game for interim manager Cristian Stellini who took the reigns following Conte’s sacking.
Daniel Levy sacked Stellini soon after and Ryan Mason was named the interim manager for the remainder of the season.
Their performances have drastically improved since Mason took over. His first game was against United, Spurs conceded 2 early goals but fought back to draw 2-2 and similarly against Liverpool, despite conceding 3 early goals, they were the better team, fighting back to draw 3-3 but lost the match from a last minute mistake from Lucas Moura that led to a Liverpool winner.
Tottenham’s dreams of finishing top 4 area all but over with Newcastle and Manchester United most likely to end up taking up the final two Champions League spots.
Tottenham have a big task at hand to rebuild in the summer if they want to challenge for the top 4 next season as well as compete with the rest of the big teams.
