The Express and Star is reporting that Premier League new boys, West Brom are challenging Tottenham for the signature of Watford captain, Troy Deeney.
The Englishman has just been relegated from the Premier League with the London side and he will likely not stay with them in England’s second tier.
He has been at Watford since he moved there from Walsall in 2010 and he has been an important part of their successes from the lower divisions of English football.
He is one of the highest earners at the Hornets and although he has just a year left on his deal, they will be happy to get him off their wage bill.
The report claims that Spurs are considering a move for him as they look for a striker that will act as a backup to Harry Kane.
Finding a backup to Kane is one of the Lilywhite’s top transfer priorities in this transfer window and Deeney might become the player that joins them.
West Brom has a limited budget, but they have to strengthen their team this summer if they want to avoid falling back into the Championship after just one season.
But they will want a loan deal first and that might be a problem and should help Spurs get the deal done.
