Premier League club considering ‘shock swoop’ for Tottenham man in January

By Mehdi Gokal -

The Mirror’s Ryan Taylor has reported that Newcastle will consider making a second attempt to sign Hugo Lloris from Tottenham in January.

He claims that Eddie Howe could make a ‘shock swoop‘ for the Frenchman if he decides to sign a backup for the injured Nick Pope.

The Spurs number 1 dislocated his shoulder during the 1-0 win over Manchester United and is set to miss 4 months of action.

This comes as a big blow for Eddie Howe since Pope has been a key player for him since he took over helping him to a top 4 finish last season.

Taylor reports that while Howe is ready to trust former Newcastle number 1 Martin Dubravka until Pope’s return, the club have started considering options in case they decide to sign another keeper in January.

Among those linked with a move include Tottenham’s Hugo Lloris, Manchester United’s David De Gea and former Real Madrid star Keylor Navas.

While De Gea is said to open to a move to Newcastle, it is reported that the Newcastle hierarchy rate the Tottenham man highly and would prefer a move for him.

They tried to sign him in the summer but Lloris refused the offer at that time since it came too late and he did not wat to leave Spurs that late in the window even though he knew he is not in Ange’s plans.

Levy is said to be keen on offloading Lloris whose contract expires in the summer and would certainly entertain an offer from Newcastle.

During his 11 years in London, he has made 444 appearances and kept 151 clean sheets.

And despite a dip in form over the past couple of seasons, Hugo Lloris is regarded as a club legend by the Tottenham faithful.
