Postecoglou could axe Tottenham star who started 35 PL matches this past season

Tottenham Hotspur appointed Ange Postecoglou as their new manager and the Australian is likely to make changes to the playing squad during the summer transfer window.

According to rumours from the Sun, the 57-year-old Australian manager could look to axe Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg from the squad. The report claims that there could be stylistic clashes between the player and the manager.

The Denmark international has been a key player for Tottenham since joining the club from Southampton and he is unlikely to be dropped from the starting lineup anytime soon. He is undoubtedly Tottenham’s most reliable midfielder and he certainly has the technical and tactical ability to operate in Postecoglou’s free-flowing attacking system.

Even if Tottenham decide to bring in a midfielder with a different skill set, Hojbjerg is unlikely to be axed from the squad anytime soon. Tottenham are already in need of midfield reinforcements and they cannot afford to weaken the squad any further.

Furthermore, apart from being a top-class midfielder, Hojbjerg is one of the leaders in the Tottenham dressing room and dropping him from the side might not be a good idea.

The Denmark international has the ability to adapt to the new manager’s tactics and establish himself as an indispensable asset for Tottenham once again.

Tottenham will be hoping to get back into the top four and qualify for the Champions League immediately. The new manager will need his top players firing on all cylinders in order for that to happen and he cannot afford to let go of his best midfielder.
