‘Poisoned chalice, sir?’ Levy Struggling To Give Spurs Job Away

By The Boy -

Jose Castro, the Sevilla president, has confirmed that his coach, Julen Lopetegui, has turned down an offer to manager Tottenham.

Presumably, this isn’t one of the occasions Daniel Levy referred to his in-house video interview, where the Spurs supremo clearly thought it was amusing that press speculation had lost the run of itself.

Words like ‘crisis’ and ‘chaos’ are bandied about with ease in relation to Tottenham Hotspur, and have been for some time. A top-flight football side doesn’t go for 550 days without making a transfer unless it has been served a winding-up order. This time around, the glaring disaster that cannot be played down is that the club can’t give away the hot seat.

I take a view that despite the white noise of angst from social media and ‘some’ players at Hotspur Way, that the abrupt sacking of José Mourinho, just 6-days before a cup final has sent out some very ugly messages throughout football, and it is highly unlikely Spurs will get anyone anywhere near their ideal candidate.

Nice work, Daniel.

Must be nice to know that you’re about the 23rd choice!

Dewsbury and Batley shoddy goods I remember a rather humourless geography master at my prep school telling us. Our nickname for him was “shoddy”.

I rather agree about it looking very 66sy; England one finalist and Belgium possibly the other (if not the Belgians, France or Italy)

There were 3 other choices before him at the minimum. Akin to spitting in his direction.

Agree, Potter (and Espirito Santo) need to think very carefully about whether they would want this job.

Jose not being able to sort it out or obtain the backing to sort it out has, as you say sent out all the bad vibes about the job you need. They were also well burnt out and the squad had been allowed to go to seed a long time before Poch left, that’s another thing that will put coaches off as well as the 12 months with no signings.

Poch said before he left, “who knows if we will get the time to rebuild”. Levy has been completely dismissive of knowledgable, proven people over the need to rebuild, he was first told over three years ago. He thought paying a top manager handsomely would be like waving a magic wand and everything would be ok.

It any surprise we are in this state?

Poch should have stayed and been allowed to undertake a rebuild. He’d earned the right for me, yet all Baldy wanted to do was kick the can down the road and do everything on the cheap as usual by changing the manager, yet again. Daniel thinks he can dump his problems in other people’s laps because he pays them a decent salary and that will be enough.

The man is a compete pillock…

Exactly, you wouldn’t. Like H says, sacking Mourinho sent out an ugly message. Massive massive mistake.

Levy has made the club toxic. A clique of players got Maureen the sack.

Utter negligence of a CEO.

Tavistock Group must replace him.

Yep he’s told Mason that once he starts shaving he can have the job full time.

No thanks to Nuno, Wolves play way too defensively and cautiously which won’t fit Levy’s alleged footballing DNA – not that he knows much about football. Graham Potter is the best fit if Levy can bring himself to pay Brighton the compensation, which is dubious knowing what a tight little git he his.

It’s a tricky situation when you know you won’t respect the manager the takes the job of the club you support. Levy had this coming.
As for the Euros, so UEFA padding out the comp for extra revenue is shown to be pointless as all the usual suspects are in the knockouts, the so called group of death conveniently ending up with the elite nations through after Portugal and France played out a draw.(Poor Coman didn’t get the memo as he tore into the area and won a blatent pen….but they all had a chat and pretended it didn’t happen.) Slovakia aren’t elite but they ain’t that bad, that match was a joke. UEFA wouldn’t want Spain going out, I can’t believe I entertained the thought. Despite Germany being talked down they should beat England no trouble…..but it’s looking very 66sy at the moment, with optimum conditions and route for Southgate after Germany. In 66 Brazil and Pele got kicked to smitherines, Ratan got the red card for looking at the ref the wrong way and of course the rusky lino…whatever, the winner of Portugal v Belgium and England v Germany will be the finalists.

…and we all thought the Damiao saga was drawn out.
Could Levy be waiting until Mason is seemingly old enough to be a permanent Premier League manager?

It will be Nuno, just you wait and see – free, available now, Patrici likes him, would work within the constraints and not moan about it.

I saw a great documentary about Wolves a while back, and the players seemed to love him. Just not really sure what he’s bringing to the table to make him a viable punt on turning things around.

Like, at least with Potter I feel like we’d be getting a more progressive, attack minded coach who might be able to get a bit more out of what we have and with the benefit that he hasn’t just been sacked for being a massive failure!

I think it says something when your current employer wants to fight to keep you.

I think it’s due to the indisputable incompetence being shown by Levy the past few weeks, his luck has finally run out, and is there for all to see.

I said the same the other day, by now we would have worked out who we need to bring in and who is moved on . However the situation drags on, with the distinct impression of things becoming more desperate.
IF we have reportedly spoken with Potter, why would he still be interested after what initially appears to be a rejection .

If a world class manager coveted the Spurs job in its current guise, I would question his sanity.

  1. you can’t pick your staff
  2. you can’t pick your players
  3. expectations will be sky high
  4. you’ll almost certainly fail with the current crop of players
  5. the chairman is a nightmare

Levy is struggling…..

A few weeks back I wouldn’t have touched Nuno with a bargepole. The fact that I am thinking that by having him as a manager we might be dodgy a bigger bullet shows how my expectations have been considerably dampened.

We can’t believe a word that comes out of Daniels mouth as he is a bald faced liar (literally). He spins so much that I think he actually starts to believe his own lies. It’s fact that Spurs have been floundering around for over 2 months trying to find somebody who would be daft enough to say yes to the Spurs vacancy. Why Levy is trying to say that is not the case is bizarre. For starters nobody takes the Spurs press officer seriously any more as the information now comes from the other side so to speak, and proves that we are becoming desperate. It’s really funny to watch some foreign source close to the potential candidate, or indeed the candidate himself, come out and tell the world how Daniel came knocking for him but was told “no thanks” probably leaving the bit out about how he’d rather stick pin in his eyes than manage enic fc under the smothering control of the egotistical, serial lying control freak that is Levy. So stop pretending we’re stupid Daniel and get real – you’re a walking, talking disaster zone.
Personally I wouldn’t mind Graham Potter right now. I like the way his team play and he seems a level headed sort of guy. I’ve had enough of potential foreign candidates who all seem to have skeletons in their cupboards, and some appear no better than Potter anyway. At least the players will be able to understand his team talks. Conte would have been fantastic but it was an impossibility. At least the attempt to sign him exposed Levy and enic for what they are, so did achieve something. Shining the spotlight on the real reason enic run THFC being for profit with footballing success almost an afterthought tacked onto the end of the plan. Our owners disgust me. Charging top dollar for a team that can never win a trophy because of gross under-investment. People who have renewed their season ticket are aiding and abetting a massive fraud.

Quite frankly, I’m feeling like Levy is only getting his payback, this savaging of him by the media and fans alike, it should have happened a long time ago.

You neglect your obligations towards the football side, make terrible decisions and keep kicking cans down the road rather than picking it up, you get what you deserve…

I tend to agree, HH mentioned in his vlog that Danny wants someone more exotic or ‘box office’ to give the impression that he’s doing something clever and exciting.

It’s all window dressing with Levy, the products you find inside the shop is always shoddy, cheap knockoff tat…

Levy reminds me of the dog with a bone in his mouth, peers over the bridge and sees a dog with an even bigger bone in the river.

Sadly the poor dog goes home with nothing and has to explain to his master why.

Should have gone for Potter a month ago, dressed him up as “Poch mkII” and just got on with it.

Now, we’re probably going to get him anyway, and without the benefit of giving him ample time to get his feet under the table and reeking of desperation.

Its akin to Levy’s favourite other “helpful” policy of buying key players when we’re already a month into the season.
